Job Description

A Senior Fitter job involves overseeing the assembly, installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical components and machinery, often leading junior team members and ensuring quality and safety standards. Key duties include interpreting complex blueprints, using specialized tools for cutting, shaping, and welding, performing routine and breakdown maintenance, troubleshooting equipment, and maintaining detailed records.
Key Responsibilities:
Assembly and Installation:
Assembling, installing, and fitting mechanical, structural, or hydraulic components according to technical drawings and specifications.
Maintenance and Repair:
Performing routine maintenance, responding to breakdowns, and repairing malfunctioning machinery and equipment to minimize downtime.
Technical Skills:
Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and 3D models to determine component specifications and required shapes and sizes.
Tool and Machinery Operation:
Proficiently using a variety of hand and power tools, including grinders, cutting torches, power saws, and potentially welding equipment.
Quality Assurance:
Inspecting fabricated components for correct dimensions and thicknesses, ensuring they meet quality and safety standards.
Safety and Compliance:
Adhering to all safety protocols, company policies, and standard operating procedures in the workplace.
Supervision and Leadership:
Training, mentoring, and leading junior fitters and helpers, coordinating with teams, and taking responsibility for the successful completion of complex projects.
Record Keeping and Reporting:
Maintaining accurate records of all maintenance work, documenting progress, and providing accurate updates to engineering colleagues.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:

• Blueprint Reading: Ability to understand and extract information from complex technical drawings and diagrams.

• Mechanical Aptitude: Strong understanding of mechanical systems and precision fitting.

• Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve mechanical issues.

• Physical Fitness: Good physical condition to handle the demanding nature of the work.

• Teamwork: Strong communication and collaborative skills to work effectively with team members.
