Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Linux Administrator to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the management and maintenance of our Linux-based systems. This role involves a range of responsibilities, from server builds and scripting to troubleshooting and system optimization. The ideal candidate should be a self-motivated, technically proficient professional who can work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Communication Expectations:

  • Documentation Skills: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.

  • Incident Reporting: Promptly report and escalate system incidents, outages, or security vulnerabilities following established protocols.

  • User Support: Assist end-users with technical issues professionally and empathetically.
  • Training and Knowledge Sharing: Share knowledge and best practices with team members and contribute to training programs.
  • Email and Written Communication: Maintain professionalism in written communication, including email correspondence.
  • Meeting Participation: Actively participate in meetings, discussions, and planning sessions related to Linux infrastructure projects.

Required Technical Competencies

Key Responsibilities:

Skills and Experience:
  • Senior L2/L3 Linux Admin Experience: Significant experience in Linux administration at the L2/L3 level, demonstrating a high level of expertise.
  • Server/Client Builds in RHEL & Ubuntu: Proficiency in setting up new servers and clients in both Ubuntu & RHEL, with a preference for Ubuntu.
  • Shell Scripting and Linux Scripting Languages: Proficiency in shell programming and Linux scripting languages, as well as deployment skills for scripting and automation.
  • Troubleshooting Skills: Strong troubleshooting abilities, including the ability to install operating systems, software, apply patches, manage file systems, monitor performance, and troubleshoot alerts from monitoring tools.
  • Knowledge of Virtualization: Familiarity with virtualization technologies, likely for managing virtualized Linux environments.
  • SAN Boot Knowledge: Understanding and experience with Storage Area Network (SAN) boot configurations.
  • Automation and Encryption: Strong knowledge of automation processes and encryption techniques for Linux systems.
  • Linux OS Boot & Imaging Process: In-depth knowledge of the Linux operating system boot and imaging processes.
  • Linux OS Security Parameters: Strong familiarity with security parameters and best practices for securing Linux systems.
  • System Management Tools: Experience with system management tools, logical file systems, and client/server environments.
  • Hardware Configuration: In-depth knowledge of hardware configuration for Linux systems.
  • System Patching, Tuning, Backup, and Recovery: Proficiency in system patching, performance tuning, backup, and recovery procedures.
  • Device Patching: Knowledge of device patching processes.
  • Installation/Kernel Updating: Hands-on knowledge of installing, updating kernels, and client patching on various versions of Linux servers.
Operations Support:
  • Responsible for the operation and maintenance of software/network on virtual and physical hosts supporting Linux operating systems.
  • Administer server performance and ensure availability.
  • Design and maintain system tools, scripts, and automation processes.
  • Monitor capacity planning.
  • Create high-level and low-level design documents as required for solutions.
  • RHEL Certification: Certification in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) is preferable, indicating expertise in this specific Linux distribution.
