A Mechanical Shift Incharge for a SID (Sponge Iron/Steel/DRI) plant is responsible for supervising the mechanical maintenance and operations during their assigned shift. Key duties include ensuring smooth production, reducing downtime through preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting machinery, managing shift personnel, and maintaining safety and quality standards.
Key responsibilities
Supervise and manage:
Oversee the mechanical team's activities and guide maintenance personnel to achieve production targets.
Maintenance:
Ensure continuous production by minimizing downtime through preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance. This includes major equipment like kilns, rotary equipment, conveyors, crushers, pumps, and compressors.
Troubleshooting:
Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues in critical machinery during the shift.
Safety and compliance:
Ensure adherence to all safety standards, environmental regulations, and statutory norms during shift operations.
Reporting:
Maintain shift-wise reports, logs, and breakdown records and report shift performance to the next incharge or senior management.
Coordination:
Coordinate with operations, electrical, and instrumentation teams for smooth workflow and resolve conflicts between employees.
Planning:
Assist in planning and executing plant shutdowns, overhauls, and major repair work.
Required skills and qualifications
Education:
Diploma or B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience:
5+ years of experience in mechanical maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role in a SID/DRI/Steel plant.
Technical skills:
Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment in a SID plant, preventive/predictive maintenance practices, and troubleshooting.
Soft skills:
Leadership, manpower handling, communication, problem-solving, and a safety-conscious approach.
