Birla Cellulosic is a Green Field Project of Grasim Industries Ltd. The project was conceptualised in the year 1994 and was fully commissioned in 1999. Brown field project fully commissioned in 2008. The unit has an installed capacity of 350 TPD of Viscose Staple Fibre and is the most modern Viscose Staple Fibre producing unit of Grasim\'s pulp & Fibre business, with its four manufacturing streams of Viscose Staple Fibre of 370 TPD, 260 TPD salt, 65TPD Carbon di Sulphide (CS2), 350 TPD of Sulphuric Acid, 2 x 15 MW & 1 x 10MW Thermal Power Plant and other auxiliary plants like Water Treatment, Demineralisation & Effluent Treatment Plant etc. Birla Cellulosic has entered into business at a time when globalisation is on its peak and quality requirements of the customers are changing very fast. Industrial processes progressively becoming highly sophisticated and integrated.High level of automation & online services though must but alone are not sufficient to meet customer delight. Care for the customers, care for the team/people, fulfilling commitment, work smart & beating the best is the key. Business Manufacturing units are right now observing major cultural changes. Organization\'s primary focus on Safety, Environment, Quality, and Cost is demanding huge shift in Behavioural changes in work culture. Safety has now become condition of employment.

Major Challenges are us:

1) Ensure Planned Maintenance of Ancillary process equipment\'s in view of non-availability of machines

2) More often, Customers and Competitors aggressive quality standards forced us to formulate process changes and thereafter maintain quality parameters within stipulated time

3) Managing spares inventory of imported items thereby maintaining low inventory cost

4) Technological changes in Electrical field enforces to upgrade and keep track of obsolete categories item. This has high impact on operational/capex cost

5) High attrition rate of the technicians basically due to lower CTC and high available options within location.

6) Enhance Skill level of the Technicians, which at present is forcing Engineers to involve at the grass root level activity.

7) Bring a cultural change in the Safety aspect of the team, and preparing them to adopt new standards

8) Dynamic requirement of process & frequent modification scheme

9) Highly Corrosive environment leading to high level of corrosion of switchgear/electronic cards, resulting in higher failure rate.

10) Large focus area and multiple production plant to be maintained.

Key Result Areas/Accountabilities

Supporting Actions

SAFETY : To plan the various safety initiates to create safe working condition & also meet the statutory compliances. * Develop a culture of behavioral safety by way of training, learning/sharing, horizontal learning deployment.

  • Changing the mindset and preparing them to adopt World Class Safety Culture (Du Pont Safety) 3. Encouraging Team to build and close SAM initiatives
QUALITY: Monitor & coordinate electrical maintenance activities of VSF plant so as to achieve optimum production loss & delivery within target cost & quality Parameters.

1. Ensure implementation of ABG Standard s 2. Standardization of PM checklist with equipment history updates. 3. Standardization / Rationalization of spares

w.r.t make and maintaining minimum stock level. Introducing RCA methodologies to ensure zero breakdown 4. Study of life cycle of equipment s thereby planning procurement of same

UPKEEP: To Plan & monitor the upkeep of electrical equipment to ensure uninterrupted production/operations.

1. Implementation of Preventive & Predictive Techniques to ensure maximum availability of all Electrical Equipment

s. 2. Preparation of Annual PM Planner / Schedule with shutdown planning for carrying out preventive maintenance. 3. Ensure the Preventive, predictive, breakdown & shutdown maintenance of PCC, MCC, EMCC and all field & Control Electrical. 4. Identifying and procuring the indigenous/bought out equipment spares and accessories by proper planning and follow up inspecting and accepting the incoming materials with respect to indents raised. 5. Provide the services & equipment needed for new products and formulation changes 6. Ensure that all Calibration activities are completed within the due date and all the SOPs are current and are in use by the concerned personnel 7. To develop guideline & check points for immediate restoration of breakdowns & emergency handling.

COST: To suggest & monitor cost reduction plan/measures.

1. Reduction in cost by propelling various cost saving initiatives 2. Introducing energy efficient systems and techniques to ensure low operational cost 3. Review budget & Inventory Control, Prepare yearly budgets and Work services to meet targeted requirements and controls. 4. Working upon cost estimation of small. modification & improvement project & its proposal making

5. Reduction in the operational maintenance cost by

developing in house capabilities of Team

PEOPLE DEVELOPEMNT: To

enhance knowledge & skills of team/subordinates.

1. Skill Enhancement of the Team by way of Training and awareness Session 2. Upgrade knowledge & skill of the subordinates in rapidly changing, developing field of process Electrical Systems & organize manpower deployment for various jobs. 3. Plan & identify multiskilling amongst the work force. Building management will & positive attitude within the department for fulfillment of organizational goals. 4. Rewarding the best practices and ensure horizontal deployment

ENVIRONMENT: To suggest operational optimum parameters to control plant operation to meet all the environment standards.

1. Develop Eco friendly maintenance practice & waste disposal system to enable ISO 14001 compliances. System audit & streamlining of maintenance practices

w.r.t. Transformer oil soaks pit upkeep. Ensure safe disposal of maintenance waste. Transformer oil spillages / disposal. 2. Implementation of identified safety rules and regulations to achieve Zero unsafe practices & accidents. To equip all with protective equipment s. To identify

unsafe areas and practices with corrective measures. 3.

To enhance the safety awareness through on job training and will spelt out Dos & DONTs. 4. Accident analysis & implement identified corrective measures.
