About the job
As the Service Asset Principal, you will advise and oversee the integrity, governance, and strategic use of data across the service lifecycle -- including the CMDB, Application Portfolio (APM), Software Asset Management (SAM), and Service Portfolio. You'll act as chief steward of high complexity, high-quality, service data, enabling informed decisions, compliance, and optimization of IT services and licensing. This role ensures alignment between lifecycle management, data quality, licensing, and service governance -- bridging the gap between operational systems and strategic service management
Job Goals
Lead the governance of key ITSM data sets: SACM (CMDB), APM, SAM data, and AMDB
Accountable for defining and maintaining data models, ownership structures, and stewardship of processes across the service portfolio
Ensure data used in service lifecycle management, licensing, and portfolio planning is accurate, accessible, and actionable
Act as Chief Data Steward for configuration and asset data -- nurturing through experienced knowledge, the integrity and lifecycle alignment across tools and teams
Influence and collaborate with SAM, Architecture, Procurement, and Service Owners to ensure consistent, compliant licensing and application data
Govern and support the management and reporting of the Service Portfolio, ensuring lifecycle status, ownership, and dependencies are clearly defined and maintained
Lead sophisticated problems and issues, driving improvements in data quality and governance maturity across ITSM practices
Accountable for enabling data-driven insights and reporting excellence for decision-making, cost optimisation, and risk management

Ideal Skills & Capabilities
Deep understanding of ITSM data structures, especially CMDB, APM, SAM, and Portfolio Management
Experience with Service Asset & Configuration Management (SACM) processes and tooling
Familiarity with licensing models, lifecycle governance, and ITSM standard processes (e.g., ITIL)
Experience defining or leading data governance, data stewardship, or data quality programs
Good attention to detail, structure, and data integrity
Excellent multi-functional communication and partner engagement skills
