Job Description


:Wood is currently recruiting for a Offshore Senior Principal Designer to be based in Chennai. The incumbent will be responsible for the following listed activities:Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the content and objective of the Health, Safety, Security, Environmental and Quality Policy and the Information Security policies are implemented and understood by all supervised staff.
  • Deputise for the Chief Engineer / Chief Specialist when requested.
  • Responsible for the design and approval of all Instrument work on assigned projects.
  • Responsible for preparation and approval of project related standards / specifications and job notes.
  • Ensure the execution of project work, in accordance with the Discipline Design Instructions, contractual requirements including India Operations and / or Project Procedures on Safety and Quality Control, within the man-hour and cost budgets and the project schedule targets.
  • Direct and control the discipline personnel assigned to project. Assignment of specific tasks for the personnel during the project execution. Highlight the updation requirements in existing procedures. Also issue MPP based on workload.
  • Review and approve project schedules with the Project Engineer to see that all dates, rates of progress and design periods are realistic.
  • Prepare and approve project specific standards, designs, drawings, material requisitions and job notes.
  • Reflect instrument requirements on project MFD\'s / P&ID\'s utilising ISA standards and symbology as required.
  • Review & approve project instrument index reflecting all instrumentation requirements inclusive of instrument type selection compliant to process criteria.
  • Prepare requisition index for Instrument work, indicating planned issue date for each requisition. Review and re-issue periodically.
  • Check and approve the drawing index for Instrument drawings.
  • Prepare and approve general notes requisitions for instrumentation. Prepare and approve data sheets, material requisitions for valves and all other instrument items including control system. Issue material requisitions to the Procurement Department for enquiry, order placement and for any subsequent revisions.
  • Design and requisition instrumentation: This includes instrument sizing and protection methodology, calculations and verification checks.
  • Guide the designers for the preparation of Instrumentation drawings.
  • Review and approve all Instrument drawings / documents and ensure that the quality of design and drawings produced for enquiry and fabrication purposes is of satisfactory standard.
  • Prepare and approve technical bid analysis for Instrumentation.
  • Attend coordination meetings and engineering review meetings with supplier as required.
  • Review document requirements and issue dates for major equipment with suppliers and assist Procurement Department in compiling a Supplier\'s Document Index.
  • Assist Procurement Department with the expediting of supplier documents
  • Ensure effective & efficient interdisciplinary co-ordination including Client co-ordination.
  • Review and approve supplier documents for Instrumentation and distribute. This includes coordination activities with all involved agencies.
  • Review in conjunction with Procurement Department all claims by supplier for an increase in the engineering scope of work.
  • Give guidance to client, project engineers, other specialist engineers and inspectors on Instrument engineering matters. Review Instrument aspects of package unit supplier\'s drawings as requested by the engineer responsible for the equipment.
  • Ensure that Instrument engineering operations are complete in accordance with the approved project schedule and within allocated man-hours.
  • Advise the Dy. Manager / Chief Engineer / Chief Specialist of any slippages and their causes and proposed correction, corrective or improvement action, any technical problems and unresolved differences with other groups.
  • Co-ordinate with Procurement Department and ensure certified drawings are available in time to meet the engineering schedules.
  • Notify the Project Engineer of all deficiencies in the flow of data or other basic information required for execution of work.
  • Provide progress report information, at the required frequency and with the required content, to the Project Engineer.
  • Provide information where necessary to estimate the cost of contract changes, Alert the Project Engineer / Project Manager to circumstances considered to be subject to contract change and initiate change flags
  • Follow up Instrumentation construction work on project sites to ensure correct interpretation of designs regarding installation. Support for resolving Instrumentation Engineering issues arising during commissioning.
  • Keep abreast of development in the Instrument engineering field.
  • Suggest ways to improve efficiency, costs and service in the execution of projects and also contribute to discipline development activities.
  • Assist where necessary in the compilation of operating manuals and mechanical catalogues.
  • Perform such duties as may reasonably be assigned by the Dy. Manager / Chief Engineer / Chief Specialist.
  • Conduct training sessions, technical meetings, Discipline Audits as directed. Contribute to Lessons Learnt and operational alerts based on project execution.
  • Guiding and mentoring the assigned discipline personnel.
  • Perform C&I man-hour estimation for proposals.
Qualifications:15+ Years experiene in EPC / FEED projects for Oil and Gas Industry. Bachelors Degree in Control and Instrumentation
Should Poses good communication and Interpersonal Skill
Experience in SPI, AVEVA Instrumentation, Smartplant review.
