ICF's Energy Advisory team is doing just that!

Our work is focused on supporting the rapid transformation of the US power system. Working within project teams, your role will be to assist in the continued development and growth of ICF's Power practice and to support our clients to identify and pursue investment opportunities in support of development and M&A across a range of technologies and across US power markets. This is a multi-faceted role with exposure to a wide array of topics concerning energy -markets, policy, interconnection, and transmission to name a few. You will analyze the increasing complexity of interconnection queues and assist your clients with navigating them and assess the impacts of network upgrade cost exposure on project/portfolio valuation and off-take strategies. You will also assess how various market parameters such as natural gas prices, demand, transmission congestion, bidding strategies, outages etc. affect day ahead (DA) and real-time (RT) market price formulation and assist your clients to manage the DART risks. You will also analyze how market decarbonization strategies will impact the markets and how the power grid needs to evolve to enable increasing levels of renewable penetration. Key Responsibilities:

Manage a project team of analysts, participate in business development activities, lead projects, and interface with clients on key deliverables and discussions.

Simulate and develop models and tools to analyze electricity markets, energy markets including simulation ancillaries and transmission constraints.

Develop proficiency in SCED and Power Flow models like PROMOD, TARA and PSLF

Stay abreast of market developments and provide fundamental analysis, insights, and perspectives on electricity markets as they affect both utility-scale and distributed resources

Collaborate across ICF groups on cross-cutting opportunities, market research and modelling

Contribute to the development of power market analysis tools

Perform an advanced quantitative and economic analysis of energy markets to assess and forecast the future of the electric power market and prices, power plant operation and valuation, fuel consumption, environmental emissions and compliance, transmission, regulatory effects, among other parameters.

Co-author reports and other client deliverables, journal articles, white papers, and marketing pieces

Mentor and train junior staff

Basic Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Management, Energy Policy and Planning, Operations research, or economics

5-7 years of work experience in energy market forecasting and analysis. Experience in the US energy market will be an advantage

3+ years of experience with electricity market modelling (e.g., PROMOD, GEMAPS, PLEXOS, PSLF, PSSE, POWERGEM TARA)

3+ years of experience with power flow models (e.g., PSLF, PSSE, POWERGEM TARA)

Ability to work with and understand technical concepts, while also being able to communicate them to varied audiences.

Work flexibility as part of a project team or independently as needed

Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills

Excellent organizational skills

Preferred Skills/Experience:

Consulting experience, including project management, client exposure and staff oversight responsibilities

Working knowledge of data analysis tools and/or programming languages, such as R, Python, VBA, Tableau, Power BI)

Demonstrable experience of opportunity spotting through research/analysis
