About The Role The Senior Editor, Content Innovation drives the creation of new content types, research experiences and publishing workflows that will enable greater and more rapid growth and development of Springer Nature\'s Research Publishing. You quickly build prototypes outside of existing Research Publishing business units but very closely aligned with their jobs to be done so we can immediately scale new solutions upon handover. Your strong expertise, knowledge and background in Research and Research Publishing, strategy and reporting is critical to success in this role. Role Responsibilities Become the go-to person in the content innovation process: Continuously re-imagine research creation and evaluation. Contribute to the development of tools and workflows to support editorial and reviewer activities. Be ready to guide the translation of editorial and reviewer expertise into technological solutions using tools such as artificial intelligence. Design new content that meets identified needs and pain points, covering both human and machine readable applications. Work closely with customers, partners, and colleagues to discover new opportunities for better serving the needs of research(ers): Understand and engage regularly with research communities, editorial, and business stakeholders Understand the trends and changes in the communities you serve to ensure that Springer Nature can respond with appropriate content formats, workflows and technology. Undertake research, monitor new trends, technologies and techniques to understand and consider all possibilities. Track competitors, work with market research, editorial colleagues, technology colleagues and others in pursuit of these insights. Contribute To The Wider Springer Nature Journals Division Contribute to pilots and implementations as needed working closely with the editorial operations team and take full responsibility for communicating any changes with corporate affairs (if and where applicable). Contribute fully to the development of strategic objectives and tactical goals of the company. Take part in cross-departmental projects and/or company-wide task forces and working groups. Contribute to Springer Nature\'s overall communication strategy with regards to the application of AI in both traditional and new publishing workflows. Represent the Content Innovation team in projects with Emerging Technologies, Production, Sales, Marketing, Finance and other Editorial colleagues. Contribute to setting out the content innovation purpose and its goals to colleagues. Experience, Skills & Qualifications We are looking to find someone with an innovative mindset and the creativity to implement great new content types which meet the needs of our customers and enable rapid and sustainable growth. Essential A thorough understanding of the scientific research community and its needs. Demonstrable experience within academic publishing, particularly in managing peer reviewing. Keen interest to experiment with cutting edge technology in the emerging field of Generative AI. Ability to grasp the essence of a manuscript quickly and accurately. Flawless command of English, influential communication and effective presentation skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Active, supportive team player; excellent interpersonal and networking skills. Track record of working across geographies and with different nationalities and cultures. Highly self-motivated, resourceful, and achievement-oriented, able to motivate others. Desirable Intellectual confidence to challenge the status quo. 360 experience with peer review: Significant experience as Associate Editor (or similar) handling manuscripts Positive ability to develop long-term professional relationships with key members of the scientific community. Previous exposure to Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning is definitely a plus. Project management experience. Flexibility to travel regularly.
