JOB TITLE: Researcher Research and Development is responsible for developing deep scientific and technical expertise, novel process development, product development and experimentation capability. Where you fit The Researcher in the India Structure and Imaging team will be a technical expert and take active part in the global Structure & Imaging team, responsible for providing advanced analytical solutions and scientific support in microstructural analysis of a broad range of materials. A strong background in the field of materials structure analysis, including XRD (X-Ray Diffraction), spectroscopy and microscopy techniques, such as SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy), FIB-SEM (Focused Ion Beam-SEM), and TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy), and others is needed to ensure that innovative solutions are implemented to tackle novel materials as well as to provide reliable, fast and cost-effective analytical measurements leveraging a variety of accompanying techniques. As a member of the Structure & Imaging team, the Researcher will be expected to partner with other (Shell) researchers and technologists globally, understand their questions and needs, leverage their broad and extensive Analytical Chemistry knowledge to provide cutting-edge solutions. The Researcher will also employ its broad analytical knowledge and good understanding of materials (e.g., catalyst) science to foster integration and collaboration across different analytical expertise fields. The successful candidate is expected to be able to scout external emerging technologies, select appropriate hardware, develop methods for relevant Shell applications and participate/support the on-going digitalization. What\xe2\x80\x99s the role? The Researcher will serve as an important resource in the department, not only in lab operations, problem-solving and lab safety, but also in guiding/mentoring less experienced staff. They will also engage and share best practices in the global team. Your accountabilities are:
  • Provide technical expertise for the development, deployment and improvement of XRD (X-Ray Diffraction), SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy), FIB-SEM (Focused Ion Beam-SEM), TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy), and other sample preparation and analysis methods as well leveraging other analytical techniques in the area of microscopy and spectroscopy as needed.
  • Technical responsibility for method development, gate keeping, evaluation, and implementation of new capabilities, such as in situ and operando techniques.
  • Manage multi-disciplinary global projects to ensure stakeholder technical needs are met in timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Collaborate with local and global analytical colleagues on complex multi-disciplinary problem- solving projects, and new project and R&D initiation and implementation.
  • Closely interact with internal stakeholders, with high level of stake-holder engagement, identifying applications and contributing to business by own expertise including but not limited to contributing to R&D projects and understanding value to the business.
  • Design, develop, validate, deploy and maintain analytical instruments and methods, including hands-on work in the laboratory and when required supervision of laboratory staff performing testing, while paying close attention to safety and quality.
  • Monitor analytical technology developments outside of Shell and identify innovations with the potential to create value for Shell and collaborate in the Global Skill Network.
What we need from you
  • PhD degree in Analytical Chemistry from a premium institute with 3-5 years relevant academic or industry experience is required.
  • Expertise in XRD (X-Ray Diffraction), SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy), TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy), and background in other spectroscopy and microscopy-related techniques with hand-on experience is required.
  • Broad knowledge of materials science, such as catalyst materials, is advantageous.
  • Experience in Analytical project and R&D development and deployment is required, including experience in supporting R&D projects.
  • A high technical curiosity, learner mindset and ability to work across natural teams without organizational authority is essential for the job.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that can easily transport deep technical discussions to business impact is highly valued.
