Global Service Centres

Our Global Service Centres are an integral part of Global Operations. Employees based there manage day-to-day customer transactions and processes for the global businesses. This may include transactions for our retail bank such as processing loans, credit cards, insurance and mortgage applications, opening new accounts, and managing customer enquiries through contact centres and digital platforms.

Employees in the Global Service Centres also run and manage operations for commercial bank customers. This includes processing credit applications, facilitating payments and managing the import and export transactions that enable customers to protect and grow their businesses through international trade.

The Opportunity: (Brief Overview of the Role)

Role Purpose

This is a senior, high profile role with accountability for delivering critical, new market leading solutions across the innovation portfolio. The role holder will:

  • Work with the Technology team and Operations BA's to design and implement technical solutions that deliver improvements in the speed, quality and cost of HSBC's payment service, in line with our business strategy
  • Use their deep subject matter expertise in payments to lead a project that will deliver business / operational efficiencies by delivering components of the overall payment innovation portfolio (which includes ISO20022, real time and SWIFT gpi - the role holder will primarily be assigned to the New Payment Infrastructure Programme)

  • Project Management jobs are accountable for successful delivery of the project and ensuring benefits realisation. The Project Management role will hold most or all of these responsibilities:
  • Reporting progress, issues, dependencies and risks to project or programme leadership and committees (as appropriate) and making recommendations to influence decision making, in order to maintain progress towards delivery and benefits realisation
  • Respond to reasonable changes in scope and direction whilst maintaining momentum and focus on delivery of business benefits
  • Maintain a focus on how the project aligns to wider programme objectives, where appropriate, and to the change portfolio across HSBC
  • Influencing the project approach, building stakeholder buy-in around the project plan, commitments and changes
  • Driving project delivery proactively, balancing planning, scope, schedule, budget, communications and risks
  • Managing and planning resources, responsibilities and schedules
Customers / Stakeholders

Work closely with multiple global stakeholders across all Business Lines to maintain engagement and deliver successfully across our global footprint

Leadership & Teamwork
  • Coach and mentor BA's and help build a programme team that will deliver high quality, innovative solutions across multiple new capabilities
  • Work with BA's and the Technology team to define and deliver technical solutions
  • Support the programme managers in developing and adapting road maps for delivery of technical solutions that deliver business benefits, in line with the new target infrastructure strategy
Operational Effectiveness & Control
  • Ensure that all changes implemented comply with relevant risk policies and market regulations
  • Ensure that business processes are updated to reflect the changes made in technology, process and operating models
  • Manage or contribute to change implementation activities, including training and communication plans
Major Challenges (The challenges inherent in the role that require a continual test of the role holder's abilities)
  • Delivering Operational and Technology solutions that can be reused across all GSC, with minimum of configuration, rather than requiring customization
  • Ensuring that the NPIP Strategic direction is maintained during design and implementation rather than opting for a quick tactical option.
  • Working with a wide range of stakeholders across the GSCs
Role Context (The environment and operating conditions of the role including the extent of guidance and authority)
  • Payment Operations serves all of HSBC globally, processing c. $25 trillion of payments per month, it employs c.3,500 FTE and has a direct cost base of c. $100m
  • As one of the world's largest transaction banks, the efficiency and effectiveness of the Group's Payments infrastructure is critical to our success; present in every country, we send payments across multiple trade corridors, and process cross border and domestic transactions for all lines of business
  • Our current payments technology architecture is dependent on point-to-point connections, which means wholesale change can be difficult and complex.
  • There are also a number of market infrastructure led innovations that will have a significant impact on our payment infrastructure including SWIFT gpi, ISO20022 and the move to real time in domestic markets
  • Increasing customer demands combined with evolving competitive forces also mean our technology and operational teams need to find more innovative ways to solve business problems
  • HSBC's executive team has therefore decided to make a strategic investment to refresh our complex payment infrastructure and support innovation and growth
  • We have initiated an ambitious five year strategic programme to refresh our technology infrastructure to support innovation, enable business growth and deliver operational and technology efficiency gains
Management of Risk (Operational Risk / FIM requirements)
  • Track and document progress and contribute to governance forums and status reporting
  • Follow programme project controls and procedures and adhere to HSBC's quality assurance processes
  • Compliance with BTF Change Management process
  • No production incidents as a result of changes implemented
Observation of Internal Controls (Compliance Policy / FIM requirements)
  • Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
Role Dimensions (e.g. balance sheet size, lending/expenditure limits, size/volume of transactions, budget)
  • No direct budget to manage, but will work with the Service Leads and Programme Managers to manage the budget allocations
  • Project work will impact all HSBC's Global Payments messages.
Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role: (Minimum Qualification and Skills Required)
  • At least 5 years as in role as a Project Manager with payments domain expertise
  • Experience in relevant technologies, e.g. Orchestration, Service Models and API build
  • Experience of delivering business benefits for large scale payment programmes for a global bank
  • Industry leading payments domain and technology expertise with a developed network across the payment industry
  • Experience of delivering business benefits for large scale payment programmes for a global bank
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with experience of delivering analysis for complex programmes across multifaceted and diverse stakeholder needs

  • 5+ years of overall operational transformation experience and a variety of skills related to executing high and medium complexity projects and consulting engagements.
  • Good experience in project management and process improvement initiatives internally or other large complex organizations. Good understanding of overall banking and financial/consulting services industry knowledge will be preferred.
  • Good working knowledge of functional area in an operational or consulting capacity
  • Knowledge of the change process, project lifecycle and consulting tools and techniques - preferably - Lean Six Sigma experience.
  • Strong problem solving skills using end to end process reviews and data driven analysis.
  • Exposure / experience with Robotics / A.I. and other light automations tools & techniques will be an added advantage.
  • Understanding of how technology/process improvements adds value to the business and to the end customer.
  • Experience in managing senior stakeholders and demonstrated ability to build rapport rapidly with key stakeholders and to translate ideas into outcomes.
  • Experience working across cultures and in matrix organizational structures.
  • Ability to form working relationships at senior level in the organization.
  • Financial acumen: ability to develop a business case, quantify benefits and translate ideas into outcomes.
  • Ability to develop cohesive working relationships with business partners.
  • Good written & verbal communication in English and influencing skills.
