Project Manager - Climate Skills India

Role Purpose:

This role leads the implementation of the Climate Skills Building Communities (working title) project in India, which is part of the wider global programme co-funded by the British Council and a leading corporate. This role is responsible to ensure successful delivery at the country level. This involves designing the project in compliance with British Council policies and procedures to achieve impact and quality targets.

This role will oversee partner delivery to ensure compliance with contract standards. The role will work with a range of internal and external stakeholders from different sectors such as non-formal education, English and arts.

Your role will also involve managing client and internal stakeholders and ensuring the successful achievement of reporting and progress within the global programme scope.

This is a new role with agency to design the programme in India for the benefit of young people and a focus on ensuring that those worst impacted by climate change are included in delivery and decision making. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a Global team, with colleagues in Brazil, Mexico, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Pakistan and the UK. You will be part of building an international network of initiatives working towards a just transition away from fossil fuels.

Main accountabilities but not limited to the following:

Works within and across the Global team, with colleagues in Brazil, Mexico, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Pakistan and the UK; supporting global project work as necessary. Supports project participants, partners and colleagues to engage in a global network of countries working towards a just transition away from fossil fuels.

Relationship & Stakeholder management

  • Has relationships with delivery partners and stakeholders within country and is able to procure services and contract delivery partners.
  • Holds suppliers to account for delivering against contract.
  • Build strong internal relationships and networks.
Commercial and Financial Management
  • Ensure sound financial planning, working closely with finance teams to ensure British Council and client financial year plans are up to date.
  • Ensures accurate and timely monthly (re)forecasting is in place, by running regular reports in the SAP system on actuals, monitoring outstanding purchase orders, reviewing commitments, analysing and commenting on reasons for variances to plan and recommending corrective actions.
  • Monitoring monthly finances, including correct expenditure, ensuring the P2P process is being followed and correcting any mis-postings or journals needed.
  • Lead on British Council, partner or client reporting for India (including, with Finance Lead, financial reporting) and ensure reports are delivered on time, to budget and to a high standard.
  • Compliance to British Council financial policies and procedures.
Project Management
  • Contributes to development of, owns and delivers on Project Management Plan for India\'s delivery on the Climate Skills programme
  • Ensures youth centred approaches in project design and delivery.
  • Monitors achievement against the plan and reports on this to the Global Senior Programme Manager (based in the UK) and line manager based in India
  • Identifies risks in a project and puts together mitigation strategies with the Global Senior Programme Manager and Senior Responsible Officer
  • Responsible for internal and client, procurement, contracting, compliance and reporting in India
  • Responsible for data management including timely data entry, and developing progress reports to meet funding needs and supply these to the Global Senior Programme Manager
  • Undertaking programme-specific data collection as needed. This includes working with colleagues to identify indicators and tools for data collection, quality assuring all data, and undertaking basic analysis.
  • Design the project to bring demonstrable benefit within India through delivery partnerships with local organisations.
  • Works with the Global Senior Programme Manager to ensure values are implemented in project set-up, considering the impact of project on young people, communities and the environment.

Role specific knowledge and experience:

Minimum and essential
  • Experience of managing projects and familiarity with project life-cycles.
  • Understanding of procurement, evaluation and reporting requirements of projects.
  • Experience of managing project finances.
  • Experience of managing stakeholders, in particular monitoring
  • partners\' delivery to agreed outcomes, outputs, schedule and budget.
  • Good understanding and experience of supporting monitoring and evaluation.
Desirable
  • Knowledge and/or experience of programmes which address youth empowerment and skills development.
  • Interest and/or experience in
  • climate/ environmental work.
