The production chemist will lead the development, execution and optimization of global Oilfield Chemical programs inclusive of asset integrity, flow assurance and production/process optimization. Primary responsibilities include identification and management of downside risks and upside opportunities related to inorganic scale, wax, asphaltenes, corrosion, biological growth, calcium naphthenates, hydrates (LDHIs & AAs) production operation and phase behavior issues, and water treatment. Familiarity with other commodity and specialty chemicals such as viscosity reducing agents (VRAs), drag reducing agents (DRAs), pour point depressants, demulsifiers, foamers, and antifoam is preferred. Familiarity with artificial lift methods may be a plus but is not required.

Job Role Responsibilities



  • Develop technical scopes of work and associated chemical testing procedures for evaluation and selection of new/replacement chemicals
  • Develop and optimize chemical treatment programs and methods to meet asset integrity and production goals, which minimizing upsets and downtime
  • Develop and optimize chemical monitoring programs to monitor/surveil both chemical treatment and chemical performance for both integrity and flow assurance
  • Serve as Company production chemistry SME, engaging with chemical suppliers to review proposals and provide revised/new recommendations as needed. Lead and coordinate interfaces between asset engineering & operations teams, chemical vendors and project teams to converge on optimized chemical program solutions. Develop and optimize tools, templates, procedures, etc. underpinning this work area. Support implementation of digitalization and implement methods to better visualize program effectiveness and cost management
  • Train, mentor and develop less experienced engineers
  • Leverage global SME network, and steward lessons learned and knowledge management platforms to leverage key lessons learned between global OFC(oil field chemistry) program design, execution and optimization
  • Influence decision making in OFC research and/or technology development
  • Transfer lessons learned and best practices across sites
  • Lead/Participate in TSA (Total System Analysis) and CMT (Chemical Management Team) activities. Influencing teams to enhance asset performance
  • Support the planning and budgeting process for Oilfield Chemicals Program (i.e., monthly actual consumption & spend, collaborate with chemicals vendor and operations / technical teams to develop annual budgets, etc.), looking for enhancements in purchasing, logistics, treatment rates, and supply management
  • Support Contract Administration, reporting and stewardship activities (i.e., coordinate with contract owner/administrator to steward quarterly meetings, track contract administration KPIs, evaluate chemical contractor performance, provide feedback to contract owner and contractor for improvement, work with contractor to resolve any gaps, etc.)
  • Support Operations on Regulatory Compliance through regular consultation with Business Unit/Projects Environmental and Regulatory teams; develop reports for routine regulatory and government reporting requirements. Review options to make greater use of “green” chemicals while maintaining chemical performance and cost discipline

Job Requirements



  • Bachelor of science or higher degree in chemistry/chemical engineering/petroleum engineering from a recognized university with Minimum GPA 6.0
  • Minimum 5 years of industrial experience as a production chemist or similar with oil and gas industry experience in the area of oil field chemistry (OFC) programs
  • Technical depth in both aqueous and hydrocarbon chemistry/physics with application to corrosion management, flow assurance, production enhancement, and water treatment
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills with technical, projects, and operational stakeholders, both internally and externally
  • Strong track record in mentoring and coaching less experienced employees
  • Good team player
  • Strong business understanding to drive value realization considering commercial contracts, procurement, supply chain and logistics
  • Flexible to work in shifts 1.30 PM – 10.30 PM IST
