The Opportunity:

  • HSBC Asset Management (\xe2\x80\x9cAM\xe2\x80\x9d)\xe2\x80\x99s Product Group is responsible for the strategic and commercial development of AM Product manufacturing capabilities including Development, Management, Governance, Support and Mandate delivery across all global markets.
  • This role is to primarily support the management and enhancement of AM\xe2\x80\x99s Alternatives products globally. The role may also support other parts of the AM business.
  • HSBC Alternatives, a division of HSBC Asset Management, has been providing HSBC clients with access to leading hedge fund, private equity, private debt and real estate solutions since 1989.   • The Product function is responsible for the maintenance and improvement of the product range.
  • The team ensures that the alternative products conform to HSBC\xe2\x80\x99s internal requirements as well as market regulation, whilst maintaining a fair balance of profitability and client outcomes.
  • The role will work closely with the onshore product managers and developers to ensure that fund documentation remains up to date, regulatory compliant and consistent.
The main objectives of the role holder will be to:
  • Plan, track and execute strategic recommendations in respect of existing funds that may include fee or operational changes, through to mergers and closures.
  • Log and track updates to existing fund documentation and manage stakeholder expectations through to delivery including regulatory approval and operational and investment teams.
  • Completion of any Post Implementation Reviews and Product reviews where appropriate.
  • Project work \xe2\x80\x93 assist in ad hoc project work such as pricing models/principles and product changes. Work on any regulatory change projects that impact Alternative and/or AM products.
  • In conjunction with Senior Product Governance manager for Luxembourg, ensure annual review of relevant policies and insurance and liaison with the Management Company.

  • Emphasis is on existing products, new product development is the responsibility of the Product Developers.
  • Perform market analysis, competitor and product research relating to existing products. Stay abreast of market developments, define product positioning and target markets.
  • The role holder will plan, track and execute strategic recommendations that may include fee or operational changes, through to mergers and closures.
  • Assist with oversight of the outsourced fund registration process for marketing purposes.
  • On-going review of existing products - identify threats/opportunities and enhancements to product range which may result from internal or external drivers. Define strategy, specifications and implementation requirements.
  • Draw on wider firm resources, track regulatory developments and their potential impact on the alternative products. The role holder will be a key contributor to regulatory change projects.
  • Analyse the tax / regulatory landscape from a fund, client and investment perspective; analyse impact on product range and lead development / changes.
  • Establish global best practice for products from a technical and governance perspective.
  • Contribute to and help maintain the firm wide \xe2\x80\x98know how\xe2\x80\x99 library that provides marketing colleagues and clients with up-to-date alternative investment fund product information.

Role context

The role of the Product Manager is to support delivery of business growth so that each project meets:

Management of Risk (Operational Risk / FIM requirements)
  • Adheres to processes and controls to identify and mitigate risks and ensures timely escalation of control issues and reputation risks.
  • Is aware of the Operational Risk scenario associated with the role and acts in a manner that takes account of operational risk considerations.
  • Is cogniscent of regulatory risk and strives to mitigate such risk
  • Ensure that HAIL products, product features and associated documentation meet our FIM standards.
Observation of Internal Controls
  • Maintains HSBC internal control standards and addresses audit points and/or any issues raised by regulators in a timely manner
  • Understands, follows and demonstrates compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved, specifically Internal Controls and any Compliance policy including, inter alia, the Group Compliance policy.
  • Understand the Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) principles, HSBC Asset Management\xe2\x80\x99s TCF philosophy and how this affects your role. Act in a manner that takes account of these principles to ensure fair outcomes for customers

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications
  • Ability to demonstrate significant previous product management experience at an established asset manager.
  • An understanding of sustainability risk.
  • Self-starter, who takes ownership, works with minimal supervision and can deliver the right solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, an ability to communicate with impact.
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and manage multiple complex initiatives (at different levels of granularity).
