Job Description

A PLC Field Operator ensures the safe, smooth, and efficient operation of PLC-controlled systems in an industrial or manufacturing setting by monitoring field equipment, performing basic troubleshooting, and assisting with maintenance tasks. Key duties include inspecting sensors and actuators, using HMI/SCADA screens, reporting system issues, and supporting engineers with fault analysis and system checks to minimize downtime and optimize production.
Key Responsibilities
Field Operation & Monitoring:

• Observe and monitor the status of PLC-controlled equipment, such as motors, pumps, valves, and conveyors.

• Conduct routine visual inspections of field instruments and equipment for any signs of malfunction or abnormal operation.

• Respond to alarms and status updates on HMI/SCADA screens, ensuring they align with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

• Report any detected issues, such as signal loss, temperature spikes, or equipment tripping, to the control room or engineering team.

Troubleshooting Support:

• Perform basic checks for issues like loose wiring, faulty sensors, actuator failures, or communication errors between field devices and the PLC.

• Assist in isolating and restoring equipment to operation following safety protocols and under the guidance of engineers.

• Support the diagnosis and resolution of Input/Output (I/O) faults and communication failures with field instruments.

Maintenance Support:

• Aid in the execution of preventive and corrective maintenance on PLC-connected equipment.

• Assist with loop checks, signal verification, and I/O point testing during system commissioning or repair activities.

• Help with health checks of critical components like UPS systems, PLC cabinets, and communication modules.

Safety & Compliance:

• Adhere to all safety rules, ensure safety interlocks are active, and participate in emergency drills.

• Maintain hygiene and proper documentation within the control room and plant area.

Required Skills & Qualifications
Education:
Diploma or degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Instrumentation engineering, or an ITI with relevant experience.
Technical Skills:

• Familiarity with major PLC systems (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider) and industrial automation concepts.

• Ability to read and understand

and control logics.

• Basic proficiency in handling HMI/SCADA panels.

Soft Skills:

• Strong communication and coordination skills to interact with field staff and the control room.

• Problem-solving abilities for basic field-level issues.

• Mechanical aptitude and a commitment to following safety procedures.
