JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Manager, Peer Review DEPARTMENT: Global Services Division \xe2\x80\x93 Peer Review DIRECT REPORTS: 5-7 supervisors JOB PURPOSE 1. Oversee Peer Review team supervisors to ensure that work completed by the team is of high quality and occurring in a timely manner. Work with team supervisors to investigate any issues and work towards acceptable resolutions. 2. Maintain positive work relationships and top-quality communication with journal editors, authors, reviewers, and SAGE staff throughout the world. 3. Develop documentation and processes to evaluate team workload and ensure that staff is working at optimum capacity. If team members are not performing up to standards work with the team supervisor to take appropriate action. 4. Develop status reports to be delivered on a regular basis to the process managers
(currently Jennifer Stephenson and Bailey Baumann in the US and Anupam Mukherjee in Dehradun, India) with updates on overall team progress. Evaluate status reports to identify any trends, problem areas and/or potential issues that need to be addressed. 5. Hold video/audio conferences with US and UK colleagues after the usual office hours. 6. Maintain editorial knowledge and proficiency, in particular as it relates to peer review and open access. 7. Training and appraisals of direct reports. 8. Provide management of Peer Review Supervisors and assist in day-to-day management and queries. 9. Monitor progress on all journals on a regular basis (dashboard and problem task report).
Detailed expectations on reports will be classified in task-list specified from time to time as required. 10. Work on quality control/audit mechanisms to control errors (ST tasks and relationship), meeting expectations of external authors/editors and internal colleagues. 11. Ensure that the journal transitions happen as per schedule and teams are on optimum workload as defined in the work allocation plan. 12. Keep teams motivated and equip teams to take ownership of the responsibility assigned. 13. Manage one journal of either SAGE US or UK and 20-30 submissions a year for SAGE
Open. 14. Suggest and implement use of new technologies within the department where appropriate. Page 1 of 3 HR
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 1. Manage 5\xe2\x80\x937 Peer Review supervisors in the Delhi and the DDN office who each oversee a team of 5-7 Peer Review Associates and Editorial Assistants to ensure that work is completed in a timely, effective, and efficient manner. 2. Effectively manage and motivate your teams to ensure that each individual team member adheres to the \xe2\x80\x9cPeer Review Responsibilities\xe2\x80\x9d as outlined in their JD\xe2\x80\x99s. 3. Manage relationships with individual team members in a professional manner. 4. Evaluate the efficacy of processes periodically and suggest corrective action where required. 5. Ability to create and analyse reports as needed to report on team performance. 6. Ensure that problematic journals/Manuscripts are reported to Senior Manager,
Publishing Services, Peer Review Manager, SAGE US and Editor SAGE Open in a timely and effective manner. 7. Report any unusual elements in the workflow guide including tasks or their components to the Senior Manager, especially for newly transitioned journals. 8. Evaluate current reports and the need for new reports periodically to ensure that the reports are effective and not redundant. 9. Ensure that process documentation is complete and available on the server. Any updates to be communicated to the reporting Managers. 10. Escalate process, human resource issues to the Reporting Managers in a timely manner. 11. Work closely with the Peer review supervisor Training to work and develop the EA programme. 12. Ensure that the training schedule is adhered to and any lapse is bough t to the notice of the reporting managers. 13. Work with the SM to ensure that the team is optimally utilized by ensuring that the transitions happen as per time and the SAGE Open team has enough Manuscripts to work on each month. SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree or equivalent in business or a departmentally related field.
  • A minimum of three years of responsible leadership experience in management or supervisory positions.
  • Excellent English verbal and written business communication skills.
  • Computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and
Power Point
  • Outstanding interpersonal relationship building and employee coaching and development skills.
  • Knowledge of the Peer Review functions and operation in Publishing Industry will be a must.
  • Organization skills and attention to detail
Job Types: Full-time, Regular / Permanent Salary: 9900,000.00 - 91,100,000.00 per year Benefits:
