The Staff Nurse in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) and PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) is responsible for providing high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to critically ill newborns, infants, and children. The nurse works closely with pediatricians, neonatologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the best outcomes for patients in intensive care.
Key Responsibilities:Patient Care
Provide direct nursing care to neonates and pediatric patients in critical condition.
Monitor vital signs, ventilator settings, and life-support systems.
Administer medications, IV fluids, feeds, and other prescribed treatments.
Maintain strict infection control protocols and hygiene standards.
Assist in emergency procedures such as resuscitation and intubation.
Clinical Monitoring & Documentation
Observe, record, and promptly report changes in patient condition.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in patient records.
Ensure proper handover and continuity of care between shifts.
Communication
Communicate effectively with doctors, allied health staff, and patient families.
Provide emotional support and education to families regarding care plans and recovery.
Equipment Handling
Operate and maintain critical care equipment including ventilators, monitors, infusion pumps, incubators, etc.
Ensure regular equipment checks and report malfunctions immediately.
