Job Description

The Naturalist will be responsible for creating meaningful, informative, and memorable nature-based experiences for guests. The role involves conducting guided nature walks, bird-watching tours, wildlife interpretation sessions, and educating guests about local ecosystems, flora, fauna, conservation, and sustainable practices in the Western Ghats region.

Key ResponsibilitiesGuest Engagement & Activities



Conduct

guided nature walks

trekking programs

night trails

. Offer

interactive sessions

on local ecology, wildlife behavior, conservation, and the geography of Wayanad. Assist guests with

photography tips

wildlife spotting

, and understanding animal signs and tracks. Create and update

activity schedules

, nature learning modules, and guest handouts.

Research & Documentation



Maintain updated knowledge of

local species

, biodiversity, and seasonal wildlife patterns. Prepare reports on

sightings

,

species diversity

, and

trail conditions

. Build a digital repository of

flora, fauna, birds, butterflies, insects

, and native habitats.

Conservation & Sustainability



Promote eco-friendly practices and sustainability programs within the resort. Assist management in implementing

waste management

,

water conservation

, and

energy-efficient

initiatives. Work with local communities to promote conservation awareness.

Collaboration & Training



Train resort staff on basic biodiversity knowledge and responsible behavior in natural habitats. Collaborate with chefs for "forest-to-table" ideas, e.g., using local edible plants (only safe species). Coordinate with front office to plan personalized activity itineraries for guests.

Skills & QualificationsRequired:



Bachelor's degree in

Environmental Science, Forestry, Zoology, Botany, Wildlife Biology

, or related field. Strong knowledge of

Western Ghats biodiversity

, especially birds, mammals, insects, and plants. Good communication skills and ability to engage diverse guest groups. Physical fitness for walking long trails and outdoor activities.

Preferred:



Experience working at a

wildlife lodge

,

eco-resort

, or

nature education center

. Ability to use binoculars, spotting scopes, and field guides. Photography or videography skills.

Personality & Traits



Passionate about wildlife and nature. Friendly, patient, and guest-oriented. Confident public speaker. Curious learner with a conservation mindset.

Work Schedule



Flexible shifts, including early mornings and evenings (ideal for wildlife activity). Weekends and holidays are peak guest activity times.

Pay: ?30,000.00 - ?35,000.00 per month
