Mountain Shadows Resort, a luxury eco-retreat in the heart of Wayanad, is looking for an experienced
Naturalist
to lead its nature-based guest programs.
The ideal candidate will have a deep passion for the natural world and at least
3 years of experience
conducting interpretive walks, wildlife activities, and environmental education programs.
The Naturalist will create enriching experiences that connect guests to Wayanad's biodiversity, local culture, and conservation ethos.
Key Responsibilities
Guest Engagement
Conduct guided nature walks, birdwatching sessions, butterfly trails, plantation tours, and night explorations.
Interpret flora, fauna, geography, and cultural aspects of Wayanad in an engaging and informative way.
Customize activities based on guest interests (families, photographers, adventure travelers, etc.).
Coordinate with the front office to plan daily activity schedules aligned with guest preferences and weather conditions.
Environmental Education & Conservation
Promote responsible tourism and educate guests on eco-friendly practices.
Support resort conservation programs such as habitat restoration, tree planting, and biodiversity documentation.
Develop guest materials such as trail maps, interpretive boards, and nature checklists.
Research & Documentation
Maintain wildlife sighting records and contribute to resort biodiversity databases.
Assist the marketing team with authentic nature-based stories, photos, and educational content.
Coordination & Safety
Ensure guest safety during all outdoor activities.
Work closely with landscape, maintenance, and housekeeping teams to preserve the property's natural ecology.
Follow resort protocols for wildlife encounters and emergency situations.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree or diploma in
Environmental Science, Forestry, Zoology, Botany, Wildlife Biology, or related field.
Minimum 3 years of experience
as a naturalist, field biologist, or in a similar role at an eco-resort, wildlife lodge, or nature education center.
Excellent communication skills in English; knowledge of Malayalam and/or Hindi preferred.
Strong interpretive and presentation abilities; capable of engaging guests of all ages.
Basic first-aid knowledge and good physical fitness.
Birdwatching, nature photography, or wilderness guiding experience is an advantage.
Work Conditions
Full-time position based at Mountain Shadows Resort, Wayanad.
Outdoor role with early morning and evening activities.
