Organization Overview:
The Delivery, Device and Connected Solutions (DDCS) organization within Eli Lilly and Company supports the design, development, and commercialization of drug products and pharmaceutical delivery systems including medical devices and container closure systems.
The Container Innovation and Materials Engineering Team of DDCS owns the development of novel primary container closure systems and providing materials engineering support to Lilly’s existing and novel delivery device portfolio.
Responsibilities:

The Materials Engineer will contribute to the materials development and launch efforts of Lilly’s devices with the following responsibilities:


  • Knowledgeable and current with the existing biocompatibility standards (such as ISO 10993 and USP 87) and be able to keep up with evolving regulations. Support assessments and writing reports including coordinating and interfacing with the vendors.

  • Provide expertise in understanding the device regulations related to materials (eg: BPA, chemicals of concerns (COC), SVHCs) and impact to Lilly’s devices. Interact with suppliers to obtain necessary compliance data and conduct assessments and document the information in technical reports.

  • Support the authoring and technical review of material selection including biocompatibility and color reports.

  • Provide materials engineering expertise and support device programs to ensure safe and reliable performance.

  • Provide guidance on highly accelerated life test (HALT) aging requests, coordinate with the Materials Engineering team and author protocols and reports.

  • Assist in conducting surveys and analysis of innovations in material technologies and relevance to Lilly’s device development efforts.

Basic Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with at least 4 years of relevant industrial experience; M.S. or Ph.D. with at least 2 years of relevant experience – relevant degrees include in Materials, Polymer, Chemical or Biomedical Engineering, Toxicology, Chemistry, Biology, Pharmacy

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Experienced in biocompatibility assessment per ISO 10993

  • Experience with device development process

  • Teamwork and leadership skills

  • Self-management skills with a focus on results for timely and accurate completion of competing deliverables

  • Strong technical writing skills and effective communication style.

  • Strong technical problem-solving skills, strategic thinking, and demonstrated ability to identify problems and drive issue resolution / improvements.

Additional Information

  • Limited Travel may be required to Lilly sites globally.
