  • The Compliance function is a Second Line of Defence (LOD) function, responsible for reviewing and challenging the activities of the Group\xe2\x80\x99s businesses (also referred to as \xe2\x80\x9cthe First LOD\xe2\x80\x9d) to ensure that they effectively manage as \xe2\x80\x9cRisk Owners\xe2\x80\x9d the Regulatory and Financial Crime Compliance risks inherent in or arising from the conduct of their activities and for which they are responsible. The Second LOD consists of \'Risk Stewards\' who are independent of the commercial risk-taking activities undertaken by the First LOD. The Compliance function is a Risk Steward for a number of non-financial risks in accordance with HSBC Group\xe2\x80\x99s risk framework.
The Opportunity:
  • The role holder will be part of a team of MENAT EMEA Risk Assessment (RA) Team, serving as a key point of accountability for financial crime-related analysis, risk assessment and the correlation of risk with the control environment; undertaking qualitative as well as quantitative analyses associated with HSBC\xe2\x80\x99s exposure to financial crime risk and the read across of different risk indicators. The role holder is expected to deliver timely and accurate on all source analytical output to a diverse set of internal and external audiences; must be quick to publish, comfortable with a variety of product types relevant to our audience. A key facet of the role is the ability to relate financial crime risk assessment to the control environment and to ensure that there is coherence between the different strands of products produced by the Risk Assessment teams.
  • The role holder must be able to combine and develop specific financial crime subject matter expertise, designing data driven analytical approaches to profile financial crime risk, carrying out qualitative and quantitative analyses to develop specific threat typologies, and quantitative research and horizon scanning analysis of thematic trends to assess how they may affect the Bank from a financial crime risk perspective. A degree of comfort with data analytical techniques, and the ability to write succinctly and coherently for senior audiences are critical skills. He/she must be curious, proactive and innovative in their approach to research and analyse, using open- and closed-source information in tandem with the exploitation of HSBC\xe2\x80\x99s proprietary data and analytical tools to produce analysis and assessments with high business impact.
What you\xe2\x80\x99ll do:
  • Pro-active, timely development of analytics and analysis to identify, understand and enable the remediation of financial crime threats to the bank in support of Investigations, the 1st and/or 2nd lines of defence. Development of own analyst production plan.
  • Efficient prioritization of often competing stakeholder requirements and proactively-generated casework, producing well-drafted and peer reviewed analytics products that are tailored to individual customer needs, and require minimal management amendment.
  • Learning about the financial crime domain to enhance our understanding of threats to the Bank, and to improve our business impact.
  • Assist in delivering a series of proactive analytic studies aligned to the bank\xe2\x80\x99s most critical risk issues and in support of the Analytics\xe2\x80\x99 strategic Program of Analysis.
  • Proactively identify key emerging financial crime threats across all FC Analysis categories and interface with other regional functional areas to identify FC typologies.
  • Promoting the conceiving, development, testing, and validation of incremental and disruptive analytic techniques to protect the bank and predict financial crime threats.
  • Provide thought for the development of requirements for an improving and leading suite of technologies, including HSBC\xe2\x80\x99s big data approach
Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL (candidate will need to pass a test)
  • Competent Excel user and SAS experience are an advantage
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong team player with a proactive and self-motivated attitude and ability to think and act independently.
  • Experience with data analysis and the delivery & use of systems in the analysis environment: delivering analysis and insight from raw data and producing effective and innovative data visualizations and reports..
  • The jobholder will work with extremely large, complex data sets. You will have the ability to merge large data sets, to generate insight from data, and to be able to visualise those insights for both technical and non-technical audiences and users.
  • The jobholder will use advanced computing assets in order to achieve real practicable results. The candidate must be able to handle areas of uncertainty. The role holder must have a demonstrable interest and capability in computer sciences and new technology.
  • The jobholder will combine specific financial crime subject matter expertise, particularly related to money laundering, corruption, and/or fraud, with designing data driven analytical approaches to build and profile financial crime risks.
