Job Family Descriptor
Responsible for the strategic planning and design of Voice telecom infrastructure and/or network components. Analyses the short-term and/or long-term network capacity needs for current and future network requirements. This includes technology and network planning across multiple layers, introduction of new technologies into the network for new services and/or better network efficiency. Designs the voice network architecture and performs technical analysis of software, hardware, and network systems, systems engineering for front-end processors, multiplexes, LAN/WAN communications, network nodes, switches, and various transmission systems. Analyses traffic flows and trends, route planning, network optimisation, routing solutions and forecast of traffic. Performs integration with existing systems and conduct service validation prior to hand over to Service Operations team. Has knowledge on IP routers, switches, fiber optic connections, microwave wireless transmission, 2G/3G/4G, DSL and radio frequency systems, etc. The function engages with LOBs and Products Team to understand market forecast/ trends, and with relevant teams and vendors to discuss solutions and cost estimates and CAPEX optimization initiatives. Also responsible for equipment planning via rfp while working along with commercial team.
Broad outline of the Role
Leads a team through expertise in most or all areas within Platform Planning and Design. Tactical role which provides a marked contribution to defining the direction of new products, processes, standards or operational plans based upon business strategy, with a significant mid term impact on business unit overall results. May lead important projects that require providing experienced project team members with instruction, guidance and advice in all aspects of the project to ensure delivery of quality outcomes. Identifies problems and significantly improves, changes or adapts existing methods and techniques. Focus is on implementation and control rather than policy and strategy development. Capable of identifying key issues and priorities and focusing on these to deliver required results with minimal direction and supervision. Purpose - Broad objective of the role
Design, configure, verify components of the infrastructure supporting Voice services (SBC, soft switches etc.)
Proactive review of ongoing services and implementation of enhancements to existing infrastructure
Support key engagements with customers (e.g. proof of concept/demo/trials etc.)
Provide relevant documentation and necessary support to operations team in configuring network hardware and software to meet engineering's specifications.
Support operations in resolution of production issues (Tier 4 support)
Minimum qualification & experience
B.E. / B. Tech. with at least 7-9 years of experience in telecom domain with focus on SIP
2 yrs.+ Operations / support experience in a Telecom Service Provider
Experience in troubleshooting complex application as well as network issues and working under pressure in a customer facing role
Other knowledge/skills
Excellent written and verbal communications.
Ability to work independently and effectively under pressure
Strong analytical, troubleshooting & time management skills.
Strong willingness to learn concepts outside area of expertise
Desired Certifications . SSCA, CCNA, CCNP, AWS Solution Architect, VMWare VCA/VCP
Technical Competencies
Experience with vendors architectures, designs, and components from Ribbon, Audio Codes, ZTE, Dialogic, Microsoft Teams, etc.
Good understanding of DOT/TRAI regulations for ILD/NLD/VNO/ISP etc.
Requires hands on capabilities of all network elements and platforms
Good knowledge of IMS, NFV, NGN networks
Designing, configuring, and optimizing networks for VoIP solutions,
Understanding of Global service offerings such as SIP Trunking, Audio and Video Conferencing and IP Telephony architectures
Expertise with VoIP/TDM Protocols/Technologies - SIP, SS7, Diameter, H.323, TCP/IP, RTP,TLS etc.
Experience in Cloud services, and understanding of virtualization functions, protocols, technologies
Voice traffic KPI
Good understanding of Microsoft Teams calling capability and integration with SBC's
Basic understanding of NAT/FW traversal and security methodologies
Basic understanding of Microsoft O365, Skype for Business, federation concepts
Basic understanding of Layer 2/3 network design and standards, including Ethernet WAN technologies
