The Manager, Performance Engineering position will report to the Manager, Software Engineering. Zscaler is seeking an exceptional senior software Performance Engineering manager to join our CBI product development team to develop a team of performance engineers with the goal of institutionalising performance practices throughout the software development lifecycle. You will collaborate with the software development teams, QA team and platform/infrastructure teams to deliver high-quality products in a fast-paced environment. Team responsibilities include performance reviews, performance testing, capacity planning, evaluation of planned application and infrastructure changes.

The ideal candidate is an experienced Performance Engineering Manager with a development and/or performance background who can direct the activities of a growing team. The successful candidate should be able to apply performance engineering process, practice and principles to software development and release processes, should apply their experience with a variety of performance and capacity planning tools to carry out these processes, as well as to describe performance requirements for new scripts, tools and automation to be implemented by their team. This Performance Engineering Manager has a focus on the customer and understands the importance of continuous performance improvement; they can develop and drive a high-level strategy, as well as take a hands-on approach to implementing that strategy. They are dedicated to building a thriving and high performing team.



About the Team

The Cloud Browser Isolation team is a 30+ people distributed team that works fast and lives on the cutting edge of software engineering in backend, frontend and infrastructure. We like open-source but we are not afraid of building stuff ourselves where it makes sense and we can optimise something. Our philosophy is: done is better than perfect and we strive to work iteratively and optimise our processes along the way so that we can achieve reliable and fast product deliverables that delight our customers.

The environment is fast-paced and requires the ability to take initiative and manage ambiguity to drive effective results. This role will interface with architects, subject matter experts, product managers, other developers and QA engineers located globally and in different time zones.

Requirements:

Hire, Manage and lead a team of Performance Engineers to ensure the highest quality product delivery

Set the performance objectives and performance modelling for the products

Perform the performance characterization of software and hardware, develop performance tools

Oversee and report on the development, execution and results of performance test plans

Partner with product, engineering and infrastructure leaders to ensure delivery of a clear technical roadmap that supports component and regression testing for all releases

Participate in release planning and estimates, monitoring of running production software, incident reviews for production issues

Do performance analysis, performance tuning and benchmarking of product releases

Qualifications

Bachelor degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering or related work experience

10+ years professional experience in software engineering with a minimum of 5 years experience in performance engineering

3+ years of experience building, leading, managing and mentoring high-performance engineering teams

Track record of taking ownership and getting high quality results in a predictable fashion

Proven success with the orchestration of people, processes, systems, and metrics to deliver quality, scalable software platforms and products

A strong passion for performance and automation with the ability to view situations from an end user, commercial, and business perspective

Experience with and understanding of performance testing methodologies (requirements analysis, performance test planning, load testing, usability testing, performance testing, etc.).

Prior experience in black box and white box testing methodologies

Comfortable working in a team environment that requires collaboration and partnership with multiple departments, including the ability to influence and gain buy-in for performance best practices across the organisation.

A high degree of self-motivation and flexibility with the ability to organize and prioritise multiple tasks

Excellent communication and analytical skills, including strong ability to identify and solve ambiguous problems

Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities and make decisions quickly to meet the demands of a fast-growing business.
