Job Description

Objectives of the Position:

The purpose of this position is to lead/manage and support the daily import/export compliance and operational activities in India to ensure adherence with laws, improve operational efficiency and reduce tariff and non-tariff barriers. The primary focus is on India, but this position will also support other JAPAC sites in our network with tactical and compliance activities

Key responsibilities include managing the siteaEUR(TM)s daily import/export transactions, coordination and management of activities with the customs broker, primary liaison with local country Customs Authorities and other relevant Government Agencies, provide trade guidance to local Company business personnel, development & deployment of trade compliance procedures/policies, lead audit defense related to the local siteaEUR(TM)s trade activity, identify/implement trade optimization opportunities, serve as the local subject matter expert for the trade compliance organization and supervising local business issue resolution strategies.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain localized operational import and export procedures and ensure local business awareness and compliance with these requirements.
  • Manage the siteaEUR(TM)s daily import/export operational activities and resolve day-to-day import/export/customs issues that result in border delays.
  • Interface with the Company affiliates and suppliers to ensure their understanding of Trade Compliance regulations and documentation requirements for key markets countries.
  • Provide guidance to local Company business on matters concerning import & export requirements (including documentations, customs valuation, tariff classification, country of origin determination).
  • Act as primary point of contact with customs and any other government agencies (OGA such as SVB) to address request for audit and inspections. Provide support for external reviews and investigations/audits to help minimize any adverse impact to the company.
  • Manage the export trade compliance requirements and execute post export review of shipping documentation.
  • Oversee the post entry audit of local site(s) transactions and ensure corrective action plans are appropriately developed and implemented at the local site(s).
  • Communicate directly with siteaEUR(TM)s customs brokers and forwarders to resolve day-to-day issues that result in border delays. Drive the enhancement of the broker management program.
  • Oversee financial and operational trade metrics and analysis, develop solution/strategies to issues or opportunities and capturing trade data associated with trade operations for reporting up to the trade compliance leadership.
  • Monitor trade compliance regulatory and legislative changes and alert the appropriate parties internally on the impact to the business.
  • Support and/or Lead import/export/duty management/customs valuation projects that focus on driving efficiencies or cost savings for the company.
  • Conduct training and knowledge sharing to improve business knowledge and operational performance and ensure compliance with importing/exporting regulations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors or University degree in a related field or equivalent experience (e.g., international trade/tax/customs, supply chain, logistics)
  • Minimum 6-8 years of experience working in a multinational company, trade compliance, consulting firm or customs broker agency.
  • Proficient in English and other Asian languages preferred (e.g. Thai)
  • Regional or global exposure would be advantageous.
  • Computer Skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with countries in Asia Pacific, specifically India.
  • Demonstrated ability in import/export policies and processes, valuation, compliance and audit management, preferential trade programs, AEO, transfer pricing adjustments from a customs perspective would be an additional advantage.a,
  • Strong analytical, organizational and communications skills.
  • Familiarity with ERP (e.g. SAP) and trade compliance systems (e.g. GTS)
