A Logistics Head (or Director of Logistics) oversees an organization's entire supply chain, ensuring the efficient, cost-effective movement and storage of goods from origin to destination. Key responsibilities include strategic planning, managing warehousing and transportation, coordinating with suppliers and customers, optimizing inventory, supervising logistics staff, and driving continuous improvement of logistics operations to align with business goals.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning:
Develop and implement long-term plans for logistics operations to support company growth and profitability.
Supply Chain Management:
Oversee the entire end-to-end supply chain, including sourcing, receiving, storage, and distribution of products.
Warehouse & Inventory Management:
Manage inventory levels, ensure accuracy, and oversee the safety and efficiency of warehouse operations and equipment.
Transportation & Distribution:
Plan, monitor, and manage the inbound and outbound flow of goods, coordinating with transportation carriers to ensure timely delivery.
Vendor & Supplier Relations:
Negotiate contracts and maintain strong relationships with carriers, suppliers, and manufacturers to secure favorable rates and terms.
Team Leadership:
Supervise, train, and mentor logistics staff, delegating tasks, setting goals, and managing performance to ensure operational efficiency.
Cost Optimization:
Analyze operations and identify areas for cost reduction to improve efficiency and profitability.
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure all logistics activities comply with relevant corporate, state, and federal regulations.
Reporting & Performance Analysis:
Monitor and report on logistics performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions.
