Where you fit You will be part of the GM-ship \xe2\x80\x98Next Generation Breakthrough Research\xe2\x80\x99 (NBR). Next to the \xe2\x80\x9cPathfinding\xe2\x80\x9d team, this GM-ship includes a wide range of experts over the different areas of thermo-chemistry, electro-chemistry, materials-chemistry, and modeling of future energy systems; each area is led by one manager. What\xe2\x80\x99s the role? As Lead Researcher, you be supporting the Senior Principal Researchers for horizon scanning, scouting and preliminary evaluation of novel potential breakthrough technologies fitting in the Next Generation Breakthrough Research TP (related to the energy transition). It is also your task to translate identified leads into actionable R&D project proposals (internal, external, desk studies or experimental/computational) in close collaboration with other researchers inside and outside the NBR GM-ship as relevant, supporting the NBRS Technology Program Leads and Principal Scientists (when required). You may be leading some of the External Technology Collaborations in Singapore and other locations. You will also be the NBR focal point for research collaborations with Qatar Shell Research and Technology Center (QSRTC) team, in close collaboration with the Technology Program Leads. You will be responsible for monitoring the progress, budget and knowledge transfer between the teams. You will also support the coordination and logistics of the NBR technical inputs for the various Qatar-India initiatives. You will serve as the NBR focal point for the Singapore collaborations, working technically in close tandem with the Principal Investigators in Singapore\xe2\x80\x99s academic/research network contributing to delivery of the NBR research agenda. Exploring further potential collaborations is encouraged. Current NBR projects identified in Singapore are related to the program Molecules to Products and Novel Carbon Sinks. Tasks include helping with experimental plans, data handling and interpretation and - where possible \xe2\x80\x93 integration of our internal knowledge, next to being the project manager. Your further accountabilities are:
  • Responsible for identifying potential breakthrough technologies relevant for the energy transition.
  • Supporting high level Techno-Economic assessments of these opportunities.
  • Contributing to technical recommendations or white papers.
  • Scouting for start-up companies and External Technology Collaborations (e.g., academic, research institutes, contract research) opportunities.
  • Work together with programs such as Shell Research Alliance, Shell Ventures, Shell Ventures X, Gamechanger as well as to businesses like Renewable Energy & Storage, Integrated Gas and Chemicals.
  • Focal point for number of External Technology Collaborations in Singapore academic hub.
  • Focal point to QSRTC NBR collaborations.
What we need from you
  • PHD or master\xe2\x80\x99s in chemistry, Engineering, Materials, Applied Physics with minimum 7 years of relevant work experience.
  • Basic knowledge of technical due diligence studies and (R&D) project execution.
  • Proven track record of setting up and running external technical collaborations.
  • (Hands-on) Experience with experimentation (chemistry, catalysis), preferably high temperature chemistry.
  • Experience with stakeholder management, negotiating & implementing commercial agreements is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of technologies to be evaluated, such as: chemical engineering concepts, methane conversion, and preferably plasma and/or membrane knowledge.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Health, Safety, Security & the Environment.
  • Work effectively with 3rd parties.
  • Demonstrated capabilities to summarize technical findings in written reports, papers, and presentations.
  • Learner mindset and Passion for research.
