Job Purpose
Study, analyze and project demand - supply and capacity utilization simulations at industry level on yearly, six monthly and quarterly basis for framing future business strategy and operational decision making for cement, fly ash, and slag.
Analyse and Project industry growth, trends and upcoming capacity for strategic decision making - marketwise and competitor-wise.
Job Context & Major Challenges
Background:
UlraTech has grown by 300% to 50 mtpa capacity since FY07 and aspire grow to 80 mtpa of grey cement capacity by FY 16. The RMC business is expected to add another 96 plants by that time. White cement capacity is set to double in next 3 years.
The company aspires and has vision to reach among the top 5 global players by FY 21. This will involve building further capacity of 75-80 mil tons by FY 21, by way of either Green field, Brown-field and acquisitions domestic and internationally.
With the above growth plan in the offing, the organization in turn requires a careful and detailed long-term plan.
Major Challenges:-
A.Keeping pace with external fluctuations: The ever changing economic environment , both domestic and international, fast changing demand and supply dynamics, new domestic land laws, infrastructure constraints, poses a major challenge in consistently devising, identifying and implementing the best plan, without diluting the overall essence of the strategy.
B.Business Analytics in view of limited data:- Non availability of CMA data on marketing, demand, supplies and competition is posing a major challenge for:
oUnderstand industry and market trends affecting the organization competitiveness, business risk, competition and make counter plans.
oAbility to proactively think beyond the immediate and create a picture of the future by considering opportunities, challenges trends etc
oDemonstrate drive to thing long-term and analyze historically to create an impact.
C.Influencing and change management for process re-engineering:- The team is required to communicate its business plan w.r.t. growth at the "Highest management level" ( Business Director, CREC committee and Chairman) for approval for conclusion and implementation hence require top most communication, conviction and convincing skills.
Implementation requires a lot of internal and external communication and interaction for effective conclusion, having their own varied and conflicting thought process. The challenge lies in convincing and forming consensus with various functional teams on proposed business strategy and for its implementation for achievement of defined objective.
D.Tracking and gaining cross functional, cross industry knowledge for developing cohesive cement strategy: There are numbers of industries like Thermal power, steel, port, construction and infrastructure, logistics which directly impact on framing a compact and consistent cement industry strategy w.r.t. cost competitiveness, raw material tie ups, identifying cement manufacture requirement. Gathering information and developing a long term vision on the allied industry under certain business environment and developing cause and effect relationship for building cement strategy is a challenge.
Position: Business & Industry analyst
Objective:Formulate demand - supply, capacity utilization simulations of industry, competition tracking and a holistic industry and company analysis including aspiration, gap and forecasts in order to frame future business strategy and help in better decision making. The function links the company's vision through its strategic plan for creating business differentiation.
The position is based at Mumbai.

KRA1 Demand and Supply
-Demand forecast - historic, current and next 10 years
-Capacity and supply forecast - historic, current and next 10 years
-Distribution pattern & Production - current and expected
-Utilization levels - historic, current and next 10 years
-Drafting presentations of the final output 1.Tracking domestic cement demand, QoQ and YoY at state, zone and All India level.
2.Tracking domestic cement supply mapping through production, distribution pattern, installed capacities at plant, player, state, zone and all India level.
3.Computing the capacity utilization of domestic cement industry at state, zone, cluster and all India level.
4.Forecasting cement demand, capacity utilization for next 10 years
5.Forecasting production, distribution and tracking capacities for next 5 years.
6.Regular Monthly and quarterly updates of demand and supply as per experts opinion.
7.Analysis of the total output for the result combination and presenting ahead for decision making.
8.Making presentation of theabove mentioned analysis for Chairmanat an annual basis for strategic decision making.
KRA2 Gap Analysis
-Identify UTCL aspirational quantity and MS for leadership vision of next 10 years
-Evaluate gap against these set aspiration
-Drafting presentation of the final output 1.To evaluate the UTCL actual, budgeted and aspirational MS and absolute quantity levels across states, zones, regions and all India level
2.To logically design an aspirational target for UTCL considering growth plans and laid out plans in strategy model.
3.To identify the gaps of aspirational vs. budgeted targets for UTCL and plot available growth options in strategy model against these gaps.
4.Analyse the output and present it ahead for better decision making of business.
KRA3 Competitor Landscaping
-Populating all competitor data as best available
-MS - historic, current and forecasts till next 10 years
-Drafting presentation of the final output 5.To track the market trends, operations etc of all competitors at industry level / business level (primary or secondary research, as best applicable) and extract the best in line from the same for Ultratech, wherever possible.
6.Competitor landscaping and market share estimations for all cement players for next 10 years at state, zone, cluster and all India level.
7.Track the major cement players operations and trends at a as granular level as possible and sync findings and suggest implications for Ultratech.
8.Analysis of the total output and presenting the same ahead for decision making.
KRA4 Preparing Media Release for UTCL 1.Preparing Monthly Media Release for UltraTech Cement Ltd. for publish.
KRA5 Automating the current demand and supply model through IT 1.To automate the existing demand and supply model through IT applications.
2.To work in sync with the core IT team and providing the necessary inputs and details as and when required.
3.To make the IT team well versed with the working of model and the desired outputs by providing the necessary explanations.
4.To comprehend the developed model in due time.
5.To work on existing model and newly developed application Vis a Vis to tally on accuracy and the output / reports generated as desired.
KRA6 Fly Ash and slag Demand & Supply
-Mapping supply of fly ash as essential RM - current and forecasts for next 5 years
-Mapping demand for fly ash - current and next 5 years
-Formulate gap and analyse availability and accessibility of fly ash
-Drafting Presentations of final output 1.To ramp up the complete database in an easy way to understand the demand and supply gap for fly ash, To allocate the best three alternatives of sourcing of fly ash for all Ultratech plants - existing and upcoming strategic locations, compare with the existing sourcing and analyze the differences, if any.
To build up the allocation for other major competitors in a similar fashion.
