We are currently in the early stages of implementing a hybrid working environment, which means that many colleagues spend part of their working hours at home and part in the office, depending on the nature of the role they are in. We\xe2\x80\x99re flexible on how this works and it may continue to change and evolve. Depending on your team, typically this means that colleagues spend a minimum of between 20% to 60% of their time in the office, which could be over a week, a month or a quarter. The candidate selected for this role will be responsible for developing and enhancing Large Holdings application for the Compliance business.

  • End to end project delivery through Agile teams
  • Providing coaching and ensuring the adaption of Agile & DevOps methodologies to the wider team and department.
  • Working with development manager to agree release schedules.
  • Providing regular updates to the development manager and stakeholders regarding progress.
  • Partnering with the Production Support, analysing issues and addressing user queries.
Additionally the successful candidates will have the soft skills to complement their technical knowledge, including technical analysis experience, strong communication skills and documentation skills. The candidate will be expected to proactively improve their knowledge and skills and take on greater responsibilities as they grow into their roles. There are significant opportunities for career development and training. What will you be doing?
This section should include:
Analysis:
  • Facilitate Sprint Planning and Product Backlog meetings.
  • Assist as required in the requirements analysis for system enhancements and changes.
  • Demonstrate good development domain knowledge with experience of different domains, utilities and experience to recommend appropriate technologies.
  • Assist or lead analysis of production issues with production support team.
  • Assess team readiness for Agile and proactively manage any gaps to ensure good Agile delivery.

Design:
  • Interpret and understand functional specifications. Work with Business Analysts, Transformations partners and end users in order to provide clarity around complex concepts.
  • Design of physical data model from data model.
  • Craft innovative solutions that will support scalable, performant, robust architectures. Represent the team at Innovation forums within Barclays and apply tools, technologies and techniques as appropriate.
  • Creation of technical design documents adhering to predefined standards.
  • Organisation and retention of project-level, system-level, task-level and defect information.
  • Defining efficient processes to baseline the code to manage build activities using continues integration across concurrent workstreams.

Implementation / Coding:
  • Implement, act and asses team delivery utilizing the appropriate the DevOps tools
  • Establish the KPI and metrics to help establish a baseline for transition and measure progress.
  • Facilitate daily stand ups, retrospectives and product demos
  • Hands on development of high-quality (i.e. readable, optimal and supportable) code, delivering the functionality detailed in the technical specifications
  • Hands on development using Java/J2EE technologies delivering the functionality described in the technical specifications.
  • Secondary development activities using Oracle / PL-SQL
  • Integration of different levels and technology stacks within the Large Holdings implementations.
  • Ensuring code written meets the predefined company and department standards
  • Conduct regular meetings to ensure that team are meeting expectations and that potential risks and challenges are well understood.

Performance Tuning:
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of J2EE/Web technologies to implement appropriate performance optimizations in Java and refactor the system as appropriate to meet the long-term performance and volume objectives of the system as they change over time.
  • Ensure that up-to-date tools and platforms are used in the Large Holding Systems. Oversee migration initiatives, where necessary, in order to upgrade the underlying technologies.
  • Trouble-shooting performance and functional problems
  • Incorporation of non-functional requirements in the implementation to reduce the technical debt.

Quality Assurance:
  • Conduct regular code reviews and provide constructive feedback across the team.
  • Mentor junior members within and outside of the team. Identify appropriate training needs.
  • Document and archive QA approach, findings, and innovations.
  • Lead test-driven development approaches as appropriate.

Testing:
  • Design and implementation of automated unit test cases.
  • Execution of unit test cases, resolution of defects, and documentation of results
  • Providing support during QA and UAT test phases which will include preparing environments for user testing
  • Diagnosis and resolution of defects found during QA and UAT test phases
  • Support regression testing - investigate output differences.
What we\xe2\x80\x99re looking for:
  • 8+ years of total IT experience
  • 3+ years experience of working for an Investment Bank
  • 8+ years experience with Java / J2EE technologies including Java frameworks such as Springs/Hibernates/Angular JS
  • Able to document system architectures and process flow
  • Able to work well with IT developers in multiple locations and across other teams
  • Knowledge of software development \xe2\x80\x98best practices\xe2\x80\x99 and the software development life cycle using Agile methodologies.
  • Excellent problem solving skills, able to shift priorities quickly

  • BS or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Physics, Maths or other relevant subjects.
Skills that will help you in the role:-
  • 2+ years of working in the Compliance or Risk domains.
  • Experience with Java Script/HTML5 a plus
  • Experience with the following tool sets:
  • Perforce/GIT for source code control
  • Confluence, JIRA, UML for project and task tracking
  • Autosys for batch control
  • MQ for messaging
  • MS or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Physics, Maths or other relevant subjects.
  • Experience with software release/build processes (e.g., Continuous Integration, Automated Deployment, Test Driven Development, etc.)
  • Project management certification; PMP, CSM, etc.
  • Strong appreciate of Global Markets and awareness of global economic, regulatory and Compliance trends.
  • Specific knowledge of financial products such as Equities or Commodities
