Landscape Coordinator Godavari Landscape, Central India Programme

Year    Hyderabad, Telangana - Secunderabad, Telangana, India

Job Description

About Us WWF India\'s conservation programme includes a priority focus on eight terrestrial landscapes located in diverse ecoregions. Conservation at the landscape scale involves working on various issues that directly and indirectly impact the landscape. This includes conservation related issues (species and habitat management & monitoring, addressing human-wildlife conflict, maintaining landscape connectivity, enhancing protection); social development (community empowerment, sustainable livelihoods); river basin management; climate change adaptation, as well as engaging with external drivers of land use change such as infrastructure development, agriculture production and extractive. Approaches include field implementation, research & monitoring, capacity building & institutional development, policy advocacy and engagement with multiple partners including local communities, industries, government agencies and CSOs. WWF-India has recently launched a programme in the Godavari River basin. The Godavari River basin and its surrounding areas in Telangana, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh form the Godavari Landscape, a region with extensive forest cover. The ecological integrity of this area has been disturbed by changes in land use and the fragmentation and degradation of forests. This has greatly depleted the populations of wild mammals, including tigers and gaurs. The region is also home to Scheduled Tribes like Koya, Kollam, and Mannae. Hence, wildlife conservation needs to go hand-in-hand with human welfare. This presents an opportunity to strengthen local institutions for decentralised forest management - a step in line with the global goals of conservation, climate-change mitigation, and sustainability. WWF-India seeks a candidate committed to conservation, sustainable development, and proven leadership abilities to drive and manage the Godavari Landscape. The candidate will be expected to work across multiple disciplines and lead a diverse team of managers, biologists, social scientists, and field staff. The candidate would also be expected to engage and work with diverse stakeholders, including senior government officials and community leaders, to achieve the landscape conservation objectives.
