The Kitchen Steward is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards in the kitchen, including all dishes, utensils, equipment, and work areas. This position supports kitchen staff by ensuring a clean and organized work environment and adheres to health and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Clean and sanitize all kitchen equipment, utensils, pots, pans, and dishes.
Operate dishwashing machines and maintain their cleanliness.
Remove garbage and recycling, and ensure proper waste disposal.
Maintain cleanliness of floors, walls, and all kitchen areas.
Restock clean dishes, utensils, and equipment in appropriate areas.
Assist in basic food preparation when required.
Follow all safety and sanitation policies when handling food and beverages.
Support chefs and kitchen staff with general duties as needed.
Report any maintenance or repair issues to the supervisor promptly.
Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and alert supervisor of low stock.
Qualifications & Skills:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Prior experience in a kitchen or stewarding role is an advantage.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under pressure.
Knowledge of health and safety standards.
Good physical condition and stamina; ability to lift heavy items and stand for long periods.
Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and team-oriented.
Working Conditions:
Shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
Exposure to hot, wet, and humid conditions.
Use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
