Job Description



Reporting to: Professor Raghwinder Singh Grewal (Assistant Professor, Mathematical and Physical Sciences) under the project \xe2\x80\x9cDevelopment of a Free-Induction-Decay Atomic Magnetometer for Geomagnetic Applications\xe2\x80\x9d (File No. SRG/+91-XXXXXXXXXX). Duration: 1 year and extendable up to a maximum of one more year based on annual performance review. This position is co-terminus with the project. The total duration of the project is two years. About the School of Arts and Sciences: The School of Arts and Sciences at Ahmedabad University currently operates in different fields of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, including theoretical and experimental Physics, and all field of Pure Mathematics, Applied Physics and Statistics. The School of Arts and Sciences has other divisions in Biological and Life Sciences, Humanities and Languages, Performing and Visual Arts, and Social Sciences also. Role Summary: The project is sponsored by DST-SERB, India. The JRF will work at Mathematical and Physical Sciences, School of Arts and Sciences, Ahmedabad University to build an atomic magnetometer based on the free-induction decay of atomic spins. The research will also require performing some experiments at collaborating institute Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad. Responsibilities:

  • Support in various ongoing research activities in the laboratory.
  • Assist with various academic and research activities including identifying key components for the development of the lab, designing and setting up laboratory experiments, ordering and maintenance of project equipment, progress report/manuscript writing.
  • Hired personnel may have to train/teach undergraduate and graduate students for day-to-day research activities.>

Key Skills:
  • Candidates having background in atomic and molecular physics, nonlinear optics, quantum optics are encouraged to apply. The project requires basic understanding of light-matter interaction.
  • Prior experience of working with lasers, and various signal processing devices (oscilloscope, photo detector, function generator, lock in amplifier, etc) is highly desirable.

Qualification: The candidate must have completed master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in physics with some research experience of working in a research laboratory. NET and GATE qualified candidates are also encouraged to apply.
