Job Title: - Java Senior Developer

Introduction:

  • To deliver digital functionality on time and to expected cost and quality, utilising agile and waterfall methodologies as appropriate - accountable to principal project where applicable for the delivery of digital work streams in larger programmes.
  • To translate business requirements into technical requirements, identifying any gaps
  • To write code to specification for one or more applications / products during the build phase of the software development lifecycle
  • To test the code thoroughly and liaise with business users to ensure delivery is fit for purpose
  • To develop a technical understanding of a component or sub-component within an application / product, providing support for technical queries, live incidents and problems
  • To ensure that the technical integrity and quality of the applications / products is maintained across their lifetime, contributing to the development of any technical changes being proposed
  • To work on a single complex project, or multiple standard projects, as a team member or team leader.
What will you be doing?
  • Management of planning and monitoring progress, resolving issues and initiating corrective action as appropriate and mitigating risks.
  • Ensuring the delivery of innovative new digital products, services and business capability to appropriate levels of quality, on time and within budget, in accordance with the overarching business Project Plans, Business Cases and KPIs.
  • Communication (including reporting) with internal senior stakeholders such as programme managers and Accountable Executives as well as dealing with day to day project stakeholders whilst also presenting/ reporting to Executive Committees, Project Steering Groups on the progress of activity.
  • Ensuring Quality Assurance and overall integrity of the project, including conduct activities such as SDLC compliance and fullserve approval processes.
  • Managing key dependencies and interfaces between projects and programme workstreams and liaising with senior management on risks and issues affecting delivery and mitigating risks
  • Working with business change management resources to ensure that change is fully compliant to the relevant change and financial controls
  • To take prime responsibility for ensuring that matrix resources work effectively together to deliver Digital functionality (mobile, online and fullserve) on time and to expected cost and quality, utilising agile and waterfall methodologies as appropriate.
  • Ensuring projects are resourced through on-going negotiation with Business Units and stakeholders, meeting their objectives within time, cost and quality constraints
  • Work with colleagues, business and technology stakeholders to agree a standardised, automated release model for digital release management
  • Undertake impact assessment of change requests against applications / products within domain
  • Create/Review component designs & builds to ensure compatibility with the end-to-end system design
  • Create/Review test strategies to guarantee the quality of the delivered system, assist in the diagnosis of system problems encountered during testing
  • Collaborate with other component design and build teams, ensuring that end-to-end system design is followed
  • Ensure that technical engineering quality standards / benchmarks are met, taking remedial action where there are quality shortfalls
  • Complete technically-complex assignment work to budget, time and quality requirements
  • Document all work in accordance with agreed standards, and with re-use in mind
  • Where system development is part of a wider set of interdependent systems changes, collaborate with the Systems Designers from the other areas to ensure end-to-end technical integrity of the development, leading this collaboration when required.

  • Able to manage large teams, delivering strategically important and complex change initiatives
  • Extensive understanding of technical development lifecycles, testing methods, tools and processes that support the delivery of IT solutions
  • Scrum and Waterfall Project Definition and Planning.
