Job Description



The IT Analyst - Compute & Storage Services will be based in our Global IT Operations Centre based in Chennai, working in shifts (24x7 cover) covering follow the sun model, working within the IT Infrastructure Services team and with suppliers to provide operational IT support activities (incident/problem/change management) and will actively collaborate with Service Delivery team members of the Global Compute and Storage Services within the Shared Information Services department.

The team obviously has a mix of skill sets, expertise and responsibilities are assigned accordingly. The general support capabilities however are applicable to all regardless of experience or skill set.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Responsibilities:

  • Delivers a highly efficient, effective and available services to the business according to agreed business requirements and service levels within specialist areas of expertise, including but not limited to Compute, Storage, Backup (Commvault), Cloud (Azure) support and system monitoring tools
  • Provide Incident, Problem, Change, Knowledge, Event Management, Request Fulfilment capabilities within the Compute and Storage services Team.
  • Patching management of on-prem Virtual environments (Hyper V) and Azure hosted services ensuring all resources are protected.
  • Commvault Backup administration and support knowledge
  • Act as a technical support analyst within the team - for complex support issues, product feedback, and critical situations in the owned technology areas
  • Participate in automation of Azure resource provisioning, leveraging service templates and automation, enriching the Service Catalogue ensuring core services for the business stakeholders (ServiceNow)
  • Use Azure Advisor with a view to improve performance, reducing costs and remaining secure
  • Work closely with the wider infrastructure teams helping to define support requirements and improvements to service across Compute and Storage services.
  • Manage, and operate scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant systems
  • Migrate on-premises workload to service providers and other environments including use of ASR
  • Handle Hyper V Windows Server Build, Configuration Management, Deployment & Release management and working collaboratively with support teams – working with templates and scripting.
  • Ensure that the on prem data estate and Azure data estate is backed up and resilience ensured using Azure Backup and Commvault.
  • Identifying issues and tracking failures through to resolution
  • Facilitating restoration of data as part of service requests.
  • System(s) performance/capacity monitoring for all Compute and Storage services
  • Help in checking the DR capabilities and performs regular tests
  • Participate in post implementation/major incident reviews
  • Assists in improving the Compute & Storage services, proposes and drives forward improvement initiatives;
  • Deliver through 3rd party providers where appropriate

Accountabilities

  • Perform effective Incident, problem and change management functions with regards to assigned services.
  • Performs day-to-day activities and checks as part of the on-going maintenance of the assigned services and that they are carried out in a timely manner as well as ensuring that a forward schedule of maintenance and upgrades are implemented.
  • Patching of the systems to manufacturer best practices
  • Escalation into suppliers as and when required.
  • Proactive and reactive monitoring of systems and monitoring services
  • Effective system performance/capacity monitoring for all services
  • Assistance in ensuring the DR capabilities are maintained and regular tests are conducted
  • Participation in post implementation/major incident reviews

Candidate Specification
Formal Education and certification
  • Degree in information systems, Engineering, or Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • ITIL V3 /4 Foundation Certification
Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience in administering and operating enterprise infrastructure environments, with Microsoft Technology stack preferred
  • Demonstrable experience working within an enterprise environment focused on Azure specific solutions, automation and infrastructure deployments
  • Demonstrable experience in Server, Storage and backup management environment is essential
  • Certification in Microsoft Azure - AZ-103 equivalent
  • Scripting in PowerShell and automation using ARM
  • Excellent working knowledge of networking concepts (e.g., DNS, TCP/IP, and Firewalls)
  • Good understanding and experience of Azure AD, AAC, MFA
  • Significant experience in an Enterprise level IT environment is essential
Technology
  • Strong Microsoft Hyper-V experience
  • Backup technology experience (preferably Commvault)
  • MS Windows Server 2012, 2016, 2019
  • Storage systems (Dell, NetApp)
  • Server hardware experience (Dell, HP)
