Introduction:

The Photonics IC Design team, BLR is currently looking for an excellent graduate student to fill an intern position for Silicon Photonics IC Design. The successful candidate will be responsible for high-speed silicon photonic integrated chip (PIC) design and characterization for next generation applications. You will work closely with other photonic component design engineers, compact model engineers for design, simulations, chip floor planning and tape-out.

This internship position has a length of 6 months.

Your Job:

  • Creating an automated framework using FDTD solvers to design and simulate PICs using passive and active silicon photonics components such as polarization splitter/rotator, waveguide coupler, high-speed optical modulators, and photodiodes.
  • Creating automation framework for analyzing GF Fotonix PDK quality using PICs and provide feedback to the internal design teams.
  • Define test plan and characterize the PIC.
  • Perform data analysis for statistical evaluation of the wafer-level-test data.
  • Design documentation and Silicon report generation.
Other Responsibilities:
  • Participate in design reviews.
  • Present learnings in technical forums within GF.
Required Qualifications:
  • Education: Candidate must be pursuing a Master\'s or PhD program in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Photonic Science/ Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • Good knowledge of Photonic component design and characterization (modulator, photodiode and passives)
  • EDA tools (Ansys-Lumerical, COMSOL, Synopsys Optsim, Cadence, ADS)
  • Scripting (MATLAB, Python, Perl)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Problem solving attitude
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of fabrication processes
  • Design automation using EDA tools
