Job Description




The Instructional Designer will be responsible for the design, planning, development and maintenance of best-in-class learning programs and experiences for internal and external audiences. Focusing on the specific needs of each audience, our goal is to facilitate the timely acquisition of new or adapted skills, behaviors, competencies, and knowledge in an effective and engaging manner.
Duties & Responsibilities

  • Create engaging learning activities and programs (online, ILT, VILT, web-based, etc.) to accelerate the understanding, application, and adoption of critical concepts, processes, and targeted behaviors.
  • Develop course materials and assets in support of learning activities and programs, including but not limited to learning aids, facilitator guides, train-the-trainer manuals, reference guides, instructional videos, and post-training retention programs.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and subject matter experts to conduct thorough needs analysis and establish measurable learning objectives for role-specific training and knowledge sharing.
  • Drive training design and development from Needs Assessment to Delivery (ADDIE)
  • Evaluate and - as necessary - amend training programs to more effectively meet team and company objectives; conduct annual review of existing programs and update to maintain alignment with business objectives.
  • Apply current best-practice learning theory and methodologies for training development, delivery, and evaluation.
  • Adapt learning programs to assist learners across disparate cultures, and to facilitate learning opportunities for learners with disabilities.
  • Responsible for the training development, beta-testing and publication of assigned courses and materials within required timelines
  • Communicates project statuses, barriers, and risks to project timelines to Manager and SMEs.
  • Assists the Sales Enablement team in administrative duties not limited to: course conversions, course maintenance, course revisions, course development and uploading courses to the LMS.
  • Continually explore new technologies for potential application to instructional problems and associated performance improvement efforts
  • Ability to manage time and work independently
  • Ensures consistent style, formatting, and branding on all material
  • Support safe workplace cultures and compliance with Smiths EH&S

The Individual
  • Bachelor's degree, Instructional Design or Learning & Development (preferred)
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in state-of-the-art learning design/delivery for a diverse group of audiences
  • eLearning portfolio demonstrating application of adult learning principles and technical competency
  • Technical competence and proficiency with:
    • Instructional design software/tools (Articulate Storyline 360, Rise - preferred)
    • Learning management systems
    • MS Office Suite, and
    • Video scripting/editing (Camtasia, Vyond preferred)
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience in documenting technical and non-technical applications
  • Advanced project management skills
  • Advanced problem-solving skills
  • Adaptability/Flexibility
  • Certification in training design and development is a plus
  • Ability to travel internationally (occasional)
