Position Overview

This position will be responsible for supervising a team of engineers in the Geotechnical & Hydraulic Engineering Services (G&HES) discipline and helping to execute assignments concerned with specialized or unique engineering requirements across all of Bechtel\'s global business units. This position has technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, and coordinating these assignments. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope, and may involve development of novel concepts, approaches, and solutions. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in one or more of the G&HES subdisciplines (i.e., geotechnical engineering, hydraulic & hydrologic engineering, engineering geology, or earthquake engineering) and will be capable of developing design documents that incorporate the applicable design. In addition, it will be required that the candidate have excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), can be the \xe2\x80\x9cface\xe2\x80\x9d of Bechtel, promoting our leadership, quality, and safety values, to external partners including vendors, construction companies, and other subcontractors. The position will be part of the G&HES group and will be based in New Delhi. The successful candidate is expected to work independently and will report to the Manager of G&HES.

Responsibilities

• Approve and act in a design oversight role for G&HES engineering deliverables such as calculations, studies, reports, specifications, etc. for projects executed in Bechtel\'s India offices.
• Review and coordinate technical documents with/from other engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction.

• Supervise India-based G&HES staff in New Delhi, Vadodara, and Chennai, and liaise with other G&HES specialists located at other Bechtel home offices and project sites.
• Schedule and monitor work activities.
• Monitor budgets for work activities.
• Prepare technical reports related to specific design issues.
• Assist in constructability reviews.
• Supervise discipline activities within areas of subject matter expertise.
• Act as a mentor for subordinate engineers and scientists.

• Schedule and coordinate reviews for engineering deliverables for the Project.

• Conduct annual performance reviews, coaching, and career development discussions as applicable.

Basic Qualifications

• M.S. degree in civil engineering or a related field with specialization in geotechnical engineering, hydraulic & hydrologic engineering, engineering geology, or earthquake engineering, and 15 years progressive related experience, or Ph.D. degree in the same disciplines and specializations with 13 years of progressive related experience.
• 4 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
• Right to work in India without sponsorship.
• Must be able to complete pre-employment drug screen and background check.
• Professional registration (Chartered Engineer, Professional Engineer, or equivalent)
• Ability to independently execute the detailed design of structures, systems, or components within areas of subject matter expertise.
• Proficient in the use of G&HES standard computer programs within areas of subject matter expertise.
• Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Knowledge of G&HES engineering deliverables, such as calculations, reports, studies, specifications, etc.
• Understands work processes of other disciplines and departments on projects.
• Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally.
• Ability to resolve technical issues with subordinates, suppliers, other engineering disciplines, construction, regulatory agencies, and the client.
• Excellent listening, oral and written communication, planning, and organizational skills.

Additional Qualifications

• Ph.D. degree in civil engineering or a related field with specialization in geotechnical engineering, hydraulic & hydrologic engineering, engineering geology, or earthquake engineering.

• Familiar with Bechtel standard computer programs and Engineering Department Procedures.
• Knowledge of design standards and guides
• Necessary skills to present technical subjects with competence and confidence.
• Previous experience working for a large engineering/procurement/construction contractor.
• Participation in technical excellence activities
