POSITION SUMMARY Assigned to the Geotechnical functional group, the position needs a proven track record in dam or heavy infrastructure works and specialized technical background and will be responsible for the overall implementation of the Dam infrastructure for the project. Ensure the works are executed in accordance with best practice and to a high standard meeting all associated technical standards and processes to provide the customer with a certainty of outcome. Position requires knowledge of permitting aspects, technical requirements, design, and construction of dams. This includes familiarity with subsurface investigation and laboratory testing requirements, development of geotechnical parameters based on the results of the investigation and geotechnical design of dams.Responsibilities include managing geotechnical tasks assigned to consultants such as delivery of drawings and specifications, geotechnical analyses and reports covering topics such as geotechnical investigations, earthwork, stability of slopes, bearing capacity and settlement, geotechnical baseline reports, etc.Work will also involve communication on geotechnical issues with the project team and Bechtel's client during the engineering design and construction stages of the project.The candidate will be responsible and accountable for the timely delivery of all geotechnical related deliverables for his portfolio of works and will liaise and interface with the geotechnical investigation subcontractors and the Engineer daily. Working location will be a single status assignment at Bechtel/project office or design consultants' office and coordinating Design Consultant Package Manager to ensure the design packages are completed per the schedule. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Reviews and implements project plans, standard geotechnical details and specifications for constructability and conformance to regulatory requirements and productivity improvement. Monitors and manages progress of the Lead Designer/Consultants Organization. Recommends and implements changes in design or construction methods on account of Geotech parameters. Advises project team of obvious discrepancies or trends that may be detrimental to the project. Prepare essential contractual documents such as Scope of Work, Request for Proposal (RFP) and identify and implement sustainability requirement. Meets or exceeds customers' realistic expectations for quality, productivity, and safety on the geotechnical aspects of the dam project, and manages the customer relationship through any changes in the scope and price of the project to assure continuing customer satisfaction and profitable project closure. Represents the Company fairly and consistently when interacting with customers. Prepares periodic management reports on work progress, materials used and costs, and adjusts work schedules as indicated by reports. Ensures adherence to the work processes. Support the creation of a work environment that fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and job satisfaction. JOB KNOWLEDGE: Broad knowledge of all geo-technical aspects of engineering, field activities, production techniques, and construction methods for development of Dam and its interfaces. Understands technical issues and cost related to selection of design features and unique engineering design requirements of a dam. Knowledge of precedents in the specialty area and knowledge of principles and practices of related engineering design methods and systems. Should be familiar with geotechnical engineering computer program applications such as (or equivalent to) Flac, Plaxis, LPILE, GROUP, SLOPE/W, SEEP/W, GRLWEAP, HoleBase, LeapFrog, etc. Broad knowledge of the building industry, regulatory standards for a dam. Has experience with engineering work planning, scheduling and cost estimating. Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions. Skills & Qualifications: An M.S. degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology with a minimum of 15 years of working experience in that field or a person with a Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering and minimum 13 years of experience. Professional registration is preferred. Demonstrable advanced proficiency level in subsurface investigations, design, and construction of dams. Demonstrable advanced proficiency level managing geotechnical consultants/contractors performing tasks such as subsurface investigations, earthwork, slope stability, geotechnical baseline reports, etc. as related to the design and construction of dams. Must be familiar with word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Must demonstrate strong verbal and written skills to communicate with project team and client in preparation of reports, memos and other forms of documentation and communication. Relevant experience in the KSA and MENA region and a sound understanding of the cultural norms and requirements of the region. Previous experience working on large international projects is preferred. Previous experience working for a large engineering/procurement/construction contractor is preferred.
