Responsibilities

Job purpose

The Training and Competency Manager is responsible for managing the overall activities involved in the design, preparation, and assessment of training and technical career development programs. The Training and Competency Manager owns the Learning and Competency process for Digital Solutions and works with the Product Line and with the Global Technical Development team to develop fit-for-purpose, competency-aligned programs, and content. This role is responsible for the deployment of the programs through an efficient, modern learning ecosystem. This role works with Global Technical Development and Infrastructure Teams to ensure resources are put in place to ensure on-time project delivery.

Duties & Responsibilities

SAFETY, SECURITY & COMPLIANCE

OPERATIONS
  • Provide leadership, supervisory and project management for delivery of training, technical competency development, and career progression requirements:
  • Provide an interface for all talent management solutions for the Digital Solutions team
  • Provide training support for all clients including but not limited to Drilling Services, Artificial Lift Systems, Flow Measurement, SCADA, field operations, and production engineering
  • Assist with the development of a training program to solve customers' challenges for digital transformation in the drilling and production domain
  • Provide technical leadership to multi-disciplinary projects/Product Lines when required
  • Proficiency in all aspects of the technical training development and delivery, and managing the technical competency development activities such as but not limited to:
  • Ensure technical training documentation is relevant and up to date
  • Create, maintain, and sustain Training & Competency documentation standards and follow them
  • Ensure product Line needs are met by working with the Global Technical Development, Infrastructure Team, and other Product Lines' Training and Competency Managers, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), and Instructional Designers
  • Develop competency alignment and common elements identification for learning in conjunction with the Product Line operations functions
  • Develop content life cycle development and continuous improvement plan for the assigned Product Line's competency-aligned programs and content, using established project management methodology
  • Develop modern, leading-edge competency-aligned learning programs and content development in accordance with Product Line requirements
  • Manage learning product development prioritization advice in conjunction with the Global Technical Development team
  • Create new programs and content introductions in partnership with the Product Line Human Resources and Global Technical Development teams
  • Assess program evaluations, effectiveness, and current and future competency skill gaps tracking and reporting
  • Ensure continuous improvement initiatives for technical training and career progression
  • Develop and enforce student survey coordination on training effectiveness
  • Manage feedback and training requests from customers and Product Line to design and enhance future course schedules and content
  • Provide planning, scheduling, and execution of training to support internal and external customer needs
  • Manage a team of technical instructors to accomplish duties and responsibilities
  • Work with the Product Line, SMEs and Global Technical Development team to design, develop, and sustain the learning elements, including final assessment, as established in the Competence Management Program
  • Work closely with development and services teams to ensure the training program is relevant for product releases and industry standards
  • Regularly perform System audits to ensure compliance
  • Work with third-party vendors, and internal teams to create content and deliver training to end users
  • Consulting with Sales to determine the scope of training opportunities for clients
  • Develop communications plans related to the Training & Competency strategy to internal/external management serviceable, and obtainable markets
  • Manage, plan and monitor one or more large-scale training projects simultaneously - whether large in size, region, or impact. Facilitate a training project team, ensuring that all milestones are met, and resources and budget are in line with project objectives
  • Facilitate pre- and post-training client sessions that determine needs/challenges, address client questions, manage expectations and resolve concerns to exceed clients' expectations and meet internal quality, time, and budget constraints
  • Schedule, prioritize, and manage projects, considering resources, client/management expectations, budget constraints, and availability of personnel - both within the team and from other groups.
  • Remain current on industry regulations, developments, and the technical community. Contribute to the global technical society in thought leadership exercises and advisory boards
  • Must understand and comply with all safety rules and company policies of Weatherford
  • Work assignments carried out to the highest quality level
  • Perform various other duties and activities as assigned by the supervisor within the physical constraints of the job

  • Maintains effective communications with all key stakeholders both internal and where appropriate external
  • Supervisors & Managers should clearly communicate expectations, roles and responsibilities to their reports
FINANCIAL
  • All employees have an accountability to the organisation to be financially responsible whether they are in charge of a function budget or simply their own expenses
  • Costs incurred should be within approved budget, processed within agreed time frames & following the relevant financial policy and procedure
PEOPLE & DEVELOPMENT
  • Lead, mentor, and train team members for the effective development of learning and competence standards, content improvement, and domain development
  • Employees have a responsibility for developing their own careers within the Company including completing all necessary function, compliance & business standards training to enhance their knowledge, skills and experience
  • Employees should engage on a regular basis with their line manager to discuss their personal performance, objectives and opportunities to enhance their skills and experience to support their career potential
  • Supervisors are expected to actively engage their employees to support talent management through Weatherford's performance management process, including but not limited to talent assessments, succession planning & regular coaching opportunities
  • Supervisors should collaborate with Human Resources & Training Development to drive strategies for the recruitment & retention of key personal & to foster an environment that supports the attraction & retention of a high performing talented workforce
Qualifications

Experience & Education

REQUIRED
  • Bachelor/master's degree in Computer Science or Engineering/relevant engineering from a recognized university
  • Minimum 10 years of functional experience
  • 2 years at the supervisory level
  • Has functional or operational experience as a coach, manager, or instructor
PREFERRED
  • Experience related to the training, design, implementation, or monitoring of a digital oil field solution
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

REQUIRED
  • Strong written, and verbal skills and the ability to converse and advise effectively with all levels of company/client management.
  • Computer Literacy in MS Windows plus basic desktop applications
  • Advanced functional knowledge of software programs required for the drilling and production domains
  • Able to work independently with remote and infrequent supervision
  • Able to lead small teams of professional and technical members
  • Ability to develop a long-range plan and a passion for investing in people
  • A clear understanding of how to determine the root cause of performance issues
PREFERRED
  • Multi-disciplinary team technical management experience to define objectives and operational guidelines for defining across domains solution
  • Project management experience with defining activities, determining resources, and monitoring timelines for the successful delivery of career development solutions
