Job Description

Must have full knowledge of welding, gas cutting, and machine maintenance work.
A Fitter/Machine Maintenance Technician assembles, installs, and repairs industrial machinery and mechanical equipment. Key responsibilities include performing planned maintenance, diagnosing and fixing faults, interpreting technical drawings, and using tools to cut, shape, and fit parts. They must adhere to health and safety regulations and may also be involved in fabricating components or responding to emergency breakdowns.
Core responsibilities

• Installation and assembly: Put together and install mechanical systems, such as pipework, pumps, and motors.

• Maintenance and repair: Carry out routine inspections, diagnose faults, and perform repairs on machinery and equipment.

• Troubleshooting: Identify and fix mechanical issues, including replacing worn parts.

• Fabrication: Cut, shape, and fit materials using hand and power tools. This may include welding to fabricate components.

• Technical interpretation: Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to guide assembly and repair work.

• Safety compliance: Ensure all work is conducted in accordance with health and safety regulations.

• Record keeping: Maintain accurate logs of maintenance activities and repair work.

Additional duties

• Emergency response: Respond to urgent breakdowns on factory production lines or other critical equipment.

• Process improvement: Identify opportunities for improving mechanical processes.

• Team collaboration: Work with engineers and other technicians to resolve mechanical issues.

• Tool and machine maintenance: Use and maintain specialized machinery and tools used for fitting and maintenance tasks.
