Job Description


  • Maintain the facility in peak condition at all times while adhering to all aspects of the operations budget, including payroll.
  • To prepare and present monthly budget reports and to assist in the preparation of annual operations budget.
  • To develop and implement programmes to enhance Fitness Centre revenue.
  • Monitor and effectively control Fitness Centre payroll and expenses.
  • To sell and co\xe2\x80\x91ordinate all aspects of memberships included but not limited to new membership sales and re\xe2\x80\x91newals adherence and incentive programmes.
Operational \xe2\x80\x93
  • Training fitness staff in:
  • Member management skills
  • Public relations
  • Sales techniques
  • Motivation
  • Fitness testing and exercise instruction
  • Develop and direct safe exercise programmes involving all aspects of the spa.
  • Develop and administer and co\xe2\x80\x91ordinate programmes including Aerobics and special programmes
  • Administer exercise prescriptions.
  • Develop criteria for fitness evaluations.
  • Recognize contraindications to exercise.
  • Develop and assist with promotional activities.
  • Develop proper forms for correspondence with medical referrals and informed consent.
  • Conduct departmental staff meetings.
  • Set goals for department: membership, equipment, staffing, and programmes.
  • Maintain and sanitize equipment.
  • Evaluate potential business and programmes to increase spa\'s financial performance.
  • Work with the Spa Director and Spa Sales in the formulation of plans for projects and other areas.

  • Assist in the supervision of all spa departments:
  • Facility Operations

  • Front Desk/Receptions

  • Sales and Marketing
  • Responsible for member fitness assessments, to include, but not limited to:
  • Guest interviews
  • Strength and flexibility assessments
  • Body composition analysis
  • Sub max. exercise tests
  • Personalized exercise programme development and implementation
  • Exercise leadership to include:
  • Aerobic Classes where applicable
  • Cardiovascular conditioning
  • Stretching
  • Strength training
  • Martial Arts where applicable
  • Instruct and council members in all areas of exercise prescription, nutrition and stress Management.
  • Assist members/guests in setting realistic, obtainable fitness goals and objectives.
  • Develop and coordinate all special events at the Fitness Centre.
  • Participate actively in all scheduled meetings, emergency drills, training sessions and community events promoting the facility.
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies which will enhance the quality of services at the facility.
  • Supervise and evaluate all employee fitness and/or public relation training events.
  • Supervise and evaluate all student interns, if used.
  • Train and guide all fitness staff in proper membership relation guidelines.
  • Review all materials which are displayed on bulletin boards.
  • Complete all administrative forms necessary for efficient functioning.
  • Maintain a professional image at all times while dressing properly and speaking positively on behalf of the facility.
  • Present an appropriate fitness model to members by staying in shape.
  • Design and implement all controls for classes which may include attendant sheets and starting/stopping times.
Guest Service-
  • To ensure the facility is in peak condition at all times (operations and cleanliness).
  • To ensure guest/member satisfaction at all times by ensuring that safety and service is always the Spa\'s first priority.
Administrative Duties-
  • Effective scheduling of all Fitness Consultants and Aerobics Instructors.
  • Development and adherence of Standard Operating Procedures Manual.
  • To maintain inventory of supplies for the operations of the Fitness Centre.
  • To maintain accurate records as required by provincial regulations.
  • To conduct selection interviews for new hires as and when required.
  • To conduct weekly/monthly departmental communication meetings and to represent Fitness Centre in weekly Spa departmental meetings.
Employee Relations \xe2\x80\x93
  • To ensure Fitness Centre maintains a positive relationship with all departments in the Spa and Hotel.

  • Responsible for the efficient training of all Fitness Centre/Aerobics employees in all aspects job tasks.
  • To ensure employees have a complete understanding of and adhere to the hotel\'s policy relating to safety
  • Responsible for all Spa departments training in pertinent emergency procedures and ensuring all departments are well versed in Fitness Centre operations (cross training).
  • To ensure all employees adhere to all hotel standards as stated in the employee handbook.
  • To conduct Fitness Centre department performance appraisals on a timely manor.
Other Duties \xe2\x80\x93
  • Follow and ensure that all employees all safety procedures and practices.
  • Development and adherence of Fitness Centre departmental Emergency Procedures/Safety Manual.
  • Ensure all departments adhere to all safety practices of the hotel
  • Ensure cross training of all employees in Fitness Centre department and to facilitate training in other spa departments.
  • To carry out any other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
