The Role


R&A Brazil Fixed Assets Accounting Analyst
The Upstream Reporting & Analysis team is strategically placed alongside the controllers, exploration, development, and operating finance teams to support the successful delivery of Capital projects within very dynamic operating, regulatory and commercial circumstances.
As Shell\xe2\x80\x99s Upstream business continues to evolve rapidly, we are seeking talented finance professionals to integrate into the Upstream Reporting & Analysis team to help enable us in growth ambitions.
The role acts as expert in Financial accounting and reporting activities domain in controllers Organization and provide valuable insights and support the external as well as internal reporting. This role provides a great opportunity to tap digitization in the controller\xe2\x80\x99s space.
The R&A Brazil Financial Analyst role will be responsible for accounting, reporting & Analytical activities for Brazil entities including the monthly closing and review of Financial statements. He/ She will drive compliance with standard global processes to deliver these activities effectively and efficiently, using metrics to assess performance and managing all aspects of controls operations.
Where do you fit in?

The R&A Brazil Financial Analyst role will be responsible for accounting, reporting & Analytical activities for Brazil entities including the monthly closing and review of Financial statements and ensure the numbers to Group is submitted accurately.
Key relationship and great collaboration with natural working teams like Asset Finance, Business Finance, Planning and Appraisal, Wells & Exploration Finance, JV accounting, Expenditure, GSR, Cash management, Tax, Local statutory reporting, HR, Payroll, Group \xe2\x80\x93 Business Analysis (Group Accounting / Policy) etc., are very critical for the operations apart from working along with other stakeholders like IT GRA, SIA Legal , Group \xe2\x80\x93 Business Performance Reporting (BPR) Group - Resource Assurance and Reporting (RAR), World Class Close project team and E&Y external auditors.
What\xe2\x80\x99s the role?

Accountabilities are broadly in these areas:
  • Accounting for capital assets and its related activities like AUC reporting & Balance sheet review etc.
  • Good understanding of the entire Fixed Assets Accounting process, calculate and post tax depreciation and share monthly reports for tax submission.
  • Responsible for operational deliveries in Fixed assets accounting (FAA) and D&R Liability recognition and support during the merger/divestment of asset / legal entity
  • Handle a variety of financial/business activities related to Month-end close of Fixed assets. This includes Control operations, activities including Journals.
  • Blackline GL account reconciliation, analysis, and clearance of open items
  • Interpretation and understanding of changes in Group (IFRS) Accounting Policies, and its impact on in-scope activities.
  • Assisting PAR in business planning, budgeting by providing necessary information needed to run the planning process
  • Drive the digital automation and provide quality analysis for MI/group reporting
  • FAA support to BOFC submission, manage all reporting requirements related to FAA operated by FO and External disclosures and supporting GRA, SIA and EY Audit


  • Take pride in delivering quality work and implement constructive improvement in processes. Be proactive, independent, and resourceful in managing changes. Working with leaders and provide insights to business performance and being part of review calls.
  • Keeping up to date with the changes to internal/local/global business model and environment with ability to translate impacts to in scope activities to effectively manage operational deliveries with no/minimal impact.
  • Administration of Shell\xe2\x80\x99s Internal control framework and ensure achieve Operational Effectiveness of Key SOX and Non-SOX controls for Group Reporting activities and support Team\xe2\x80\x99s compliance of Controls of Controllership activities especially related to FAA activities.
Dimensions: This position will form the core of R&A Brazil Controllership team and will be fully integrated with the local finance accounting and reporting teams offering a valuable opportunity to understand the complexities of the Upstream business and the opportunity to work with finance tools & systems that are used within Shell Upstream (SAP, Business Warehouse/BI etc). Accurate and timely completion of the monthly closing cycle delivers financial results for all UA operations. Dimensions are all UA entities of Shell Brazil and all UA Lines of Business within those entities\xe2\x80\x99 financial integrity and timeliness of Group reporting must be maintained for all entities. Competing priorities must be managed for all stakeholders. Stakeholders span many time zones. Entity has multiple line of Businesses like Deepwater and Exploration with Property Plant and Equipment balances of worth $30 billion. Key unusual items and transactions happening almost all the quarters for the entity to be reported to Group, Local & Tax. Skills and Requirements:
  • Degree in Accounting/Finance, minimum 7+ years of finance
  • Should be strong in accounting, analysis and reporting
  • Good excel skill. Knowledge on Macros will be an added advantage.
  • Possess excellent communications skills \xe2\x80\x93 both written and verbal.
  • Aspiration to Learn, Adaptability to Change and Desire to Grow is mandatory.
  • Experience in fixed asset accounting and reporting is preferred.
  • Look beyond the scope of requests being made by being proactive, creative and pragmatic thinker
  • Focus on Business Process Improvement with an ability to develop and enhance virtual working relationships with Business partners.
  • Good knowledge of Financial and computer systems/applications (SAP).

Additional Information:
The Incumbent will be working in a 12 to 9 PM shift but he/she should be flexible enough to accommodate time zones during critical time periods, especially during Quarter close / month close
  • Specific focus areas include understanding of the Deepwater Business Model, and of the Deepwater Business Goals.
  • Being flexible with changing demands and staying focused on the top priorities of the business.
  • Interfacing with multiple disciplines and organizations across Upstream (including teams that are represented within FO) and involvement with various initiatives. The challenge is to balance competing priorities and stay flexible.
  • CI Initiatives \xe2\x80\x93 Good understanding of the business processes to challenge status quo, initiate and deliver CI projects.
  • Courage to develop and share reasoned opinions on the business with senior leaders and stand back from the business to provide an unbiased perspective.
  • Balancing the demands of supporting the business as a partner and maintaining independence to constructively challenge business decisions.
  • Possess the ability to work on different tasks concurrently often with tight deadlines.
  • Effectively managing the time zone differences when interfacing with disciplines and organizations across Upstream.
  • Identifying and sharing best practices with the larger team.
