Job Title: Shift In-charge - Water/Wastewater & Recycling

Role: Engineer I/Engineer II

Reports To: Manager Environment

Basic Job Functions

  • The main duties of this position include organizing and supervising the daily work schedules for all technicians who operate in water, wastewater, and recycling treatment.
  • The person responsible for this position shall be training & developing the direct reports.
  • S/he must provide clear direction to the hourly associates, contractors, and vendors to ensure compliance with First Solar's standards and Job requirements.
  • Responsible for communicating objectives, systems, and policies to direct reports across all shifts.
  • Responsible for working with the appropriate departments to handle employee relations issues.
  • Responsible for the work time management of all direct reports on both day & night shifts. S/he must work on shift.
Roles & Responsibilities
  • Responsible to supervise the frontline plant associates on shifts, including timekeeping scheduling, setting goals, and discipline.
  • Responsible for safety & environmental compliance of all direct reports and other associates/ contractors/vendors working in his/her operational area.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all technicians deployed for the operations underwent training and actually follow all FS & Local regulatory EHS policies & procedures at all times.
  • Responsible for conducting routine area inspections and holding all associates accountable for strict adherence to all safety procedures and good housekeeping standards.
  • Responsible for the overall operation of the process water/wastewater treatment and module recycling systems during his/her operating shifts.
  • Ensures that technicians properly operate the UPW/WW/ZLD systems, ensure uninterrupted UPW water to the manufacturing, and follow the process properly to achieve required product quality & effluent standards and maintain Zero Liquid discharge at all times.
  • Maintain all routine operations data documents & develop new documentation/training material for any process changes.
  • Supervises the troubleshooting and servicing of all plant equipment and is responsible for complying with the preventative maintenance program.
  • Responsible to work with corporate & local plant engineering teams to ensure proper hand-off of new or modified WWT/UPW/RCY systems. Including qualification, work instructions, preventive maintenance, and training.
  • Identifies and recommends opportunities for cost savings and continuous improvement projects.
  • Interfaces with internal & external personnel to ensure that all necessary consumable items (chemicals, spare parts & other materials) are available in a timely manner to support plant operations.
  • Demonstrate positive attitude, coach, direct reports & create an environment to foster team building.
  • Manages the timely completion of special projects as required.
  • Shall own prepare & implement Standard Operating/training Procedures for UPW, WWTP, ZLD, RCY & CWM
  • To ensure inventory of supplies like chemicals, spare parts, and consumables stocks are well maintained for uninterrupted plant operations
  • Examine and troubleshoot yield and reliability issues that arise from UPW by collaborating with manufacturing & engineering for continuous operations
  • Handle all routine/ unannounced inspections of site environmental control systems from regulatory authorities to ensure 100% compliance, any non-compliances have to be bought to the notice of the manager immediately
  • Take the lead on all process improvement activities and oversee project contractors and vendors to ensure that the process modifications are been accomplished safely, on time, and within the budget.
  • Handle Environmental related compliance requirements on air, water & waste emissions, and management.
  • Safety and environmental compliance performance of the construction team during projects and on continuous operations has to be ensured
  • Develop, evaluate & implement novel approaches to continuously improve water, wastewater & recycling plant processes to support solar panel manufacturing operations;
  • Manage process effluent stream quality and coordinate process water consumption studies to support waste minimization & overall water consumption reduction projects;
  • Train operations crew to troubleshoot chemical process problems and manage the implementation of corrective actions to improve process efficiency, product quality, and plant operating cost reduction;
  • Responsible for the overall operation of the process water/wastewater treatment and module recycling systems during his/her operating shifts.
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical/mechanical engineering with 5-7 years of experience in wastewater treatment (ZLD) operations & maintenance and waste management.
  • Skills to understand the PID drawings, detail engineering details, BOQs of electrical, mechanical, civil, process controls, etc.
  • Strong in people management and should be able to lead a team of technicians
  • Project management experience (erection & commissioning of water, and wastewater treatment facilities) along with control of project schedule & financial budget
  • Experience in managing consultants, vendors, and contractors in chemical processes and design upgrades
  • Expertise in Legal requirements for wastewater, air & waste emissions
  • Interpretation of lab analysis and chemical consumption optimization without affecting the quality (analysis & process improvement skills)
  • New plant start-up, process troubleshooting & hazardous material handling experience.
  • Project management for chemical processes and/or mechanical systems, including managing scope, schedule, and cost.
  • Solar panel recycling operational knowledge (preferred)
  • Strong mechanical and process control aptitude with troubleshooting skills
  • Fluent computer skills in (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project, MS Access, and preferred AutoCAD)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal in English & Tamil languages
Physical Requirements:
  • Will sit, stand or walk short distances for up to 12 hours per day
  • Will climb stairs on an occasional basis
  • Will exert up to 50 pounds of force to lift, push or pull on a seldom basis
  • Will lift, push or pull up to 27 pounds frequently
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects repetitively frequently
  • 20/40 vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required
  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures
  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist frequently
  • May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron, and arm guards)
  • All associates working on the production floor may be required to wear a respirator at any given time and thus, the ability to wear a respirator is a condition of employment and continued employment
