Purpose Statement

Boston Scientific is seeking a highly motivated and experienced R&D Engineer. The successful candidate will provide system-level design of external medical devices integrating elements such as clinician programmers, mobile applications, and patient data management systems for Boston Scientific. This role is highly cross-functional both inside and outside of R&D as the external systems design team is the primary technical point of contact for the marketing, regulatory, technical services, reliability, and clinical organizations with respect to these medical devices.

You will be joining a team whose primary activities are to help define innovative and high valued products for the business, create system requirements and design, and then partner with various R&D functions to develop these products. At Boston Scientific, our products and technologies are used to diagnose or treat a wide range of medical conditions including heart, digestive, pulmonary, vascular, urological, pelvic health, and chronic pain conditions. Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing system level expertise for the design, development, and sustaining of complex electronic medical equipment systems, including sensors, embedded systems, algorithms, hardware, software and server-side systems.
  • Elicit and define system requirements, system specifications, input/output processes and working parameters by using current systems engineering methods and technologies. Analyzes, coordinates system partitioning (i.e. hardware/software partitioning) and total system integration by using systems engineering practices.
  • Document system requirements by writing documents, reports, memos, change requests. Methods used are determined by approved procedures and standards.
  • Assist in directing the work of other teams by maintaining traceability reports.
  • Solves system problems by analyzing the situation and recommending corrective or alternative actions.
  • Continuously improves process and work methodologies by interfacing with peers/cross-functional groups and analyzing activities to improve workflow and work processes.
  • Tracks system engineering effort by creating and maintaining records in the approved tracking management tool.
  • Directs support personnel and project activities.
  • Mentors engineers in engineering activities/methodologies and domain knowledge.
  • Conducts special studies on subjects such as improving systems engineering practices, improving system quality, subsystem partitioning, etc. by researching and analyzing options for implementation
  • Aid in the Risk Analysis for the project.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and resource for other team members in the use of JIRA, Accurev, and internally developed systems engineering tools.

Job Scope and Leveling Guidelines

Desired Experience and skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent (BE, B Tech, MCA, MSc)
  • 10+ years of system engineering experience in mixed HW/SW systems
  • Proven experience in leading complex system analysis from early stages to post release
  • Experience designing and building high-accuracy, high-reliability systems
  • Excellent Communication, presentation and interpersonal skills with proficiency in English (verbal and written).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Medical Device industry background and knowledge
  • Medical Device systems experience
  • Self-motivated with a passion for solving problems
  • Experience and knowledge of 62304, 60601 and other industry standards for EME
  • Hands-on approach to problem solving
