Editorial Section Manager for Heliyon, a Cell Press all-science journal

Description

We are seeking Editorial Section Managers for Heliyon, an all-science, open access, Cell Press journal. We have ambitious plans for 2023 and this is an exciting opportunity for university graduates to start their career in scientific publishing.

Reporting to an Editorial Team Leader, the Editorial Section Manager will be part of our editorial support teams in United Kingdom/China/India with the primary responsibility of managing one or more of our scientific sections, developing its respective editorial teams, and coordinating the flow of new and revised manuscripts from submission through publication, which requires frequent and consistent contact with scientific editors, authors, and editorial referees. Scientific literacy in a life, medical, physical or social science is required for the role of the Editorial Section Manager.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

• Ensure the smooth operation of sections within the journal through collaboration with our international scientific editors.
• Continuously develop the editorial teams of the journal and ensure strong relationships with the scientific editors of Heliyon.
• Manage high volume of internal and external e-mail correspondence, providing exceptional customer service to authors, reviewers, and staff.
• Guide manuscripts through an online database from initial submission through to final editorial decision.
• Perform technical and administrative checks on manuscripts for compliance with the journal\xe2\x80\x99s standard after submission, revision and in preparation for acceptance.
• Monitor the peer review process with a goal of obtaining timely feedback from editors and reviewers.
• Collaborate with colleagues across the business on projects to improve Heliyon.

This is a 40 hour, full-time position and is based in the Elsevier office in Chennai, India. It is our expectation that we will adopt a hybrid working approach after the COVID pandemic with some shared office days as well as some working-from-home-days.

Qualifications

• A scientific background (undergraduate level) is required. An undergraduate degree in a medical science is preferred, but degrees in a life, physical or social science may also be considered.
• A talent for exceptional communication in written and spoken English, and a strong focus on hospitality.
• An enthusiastic attitude, great analytical skill and the ability to pay close attention to detail.
• The ability to adapt to change, handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously and to prioritize independently.
• Great interpersonal skill within an international team.
• The ability to work equally well collaboratively or independently without continuous supervision in a fast-paced environment.
• PC proficient with expertise in Microsoft Office (particularly Outlook and Excel).
