Job Description


Reuters is looking for an Editor in Charge to lead its Commodities & Energy team in Bangalore.

The Bangalore C&E team is at the forefront of Reuters\xe2\x80\x99 market-moving coverage of key developments in the highly competitive world of metals, energy and agriculture.

Breaking news, on everything from the Nord Stream pipeline saga to the Texas freeze, is at the core of this team. It is responsible for writing several market reports, including for precious metals, natural gas, and cotton, and conducting polls on oil and agricultural commodities. It also regularly produces a stellar initiative file and quick, smart spot coverage on the biggest global stories.

To lead this team successfully, you should have a deep understanding of how Commodities markets function and the factors that impact them.

You should have hands-on experience writing and editing market reports and be familiar with the intricacies of stories involving refinery or pipeline outages, weather disruptions, production and trade flows of different commodities. The EIC should also be skilful in driving deep sourcing and quickly turning around insightful long-format reporting on key global commodity news.

The EIC must excel at networking and building strong rapport with both internal and external stakeholders while ensuring smooth collaboration with all teams, especially working in close conjunction with the US Resources team in Bangalore.

A proven track record of being a fast and accurate snapper with strong news judgment will be a plus.

We need a dynamic leader, who can think outside the box and can remain calm and focused in a high-pressure environment, while anchoring different tasks at the same time. We will expect you to help sustain and build on the team\xe2\x80\x99s strong timings record, as well as the market reports portfolio.

You will be comfortable with technology and will have automation ideas, that are scalable, to keep Reuters competitive.

We are looking for someone who can be a player and a coach.

The Editor in Charge will have the following key responsibilities:

Meet quality targets for accuracy and speed and continually improve team performance
Streamline workflow with a focus on augmenting news coverage
Work with Bangalore Editors and the Global Commodities Editors to enhance and expand coverage
Deliver strong team performance in a positive environment, including completing mid- and full-year appraisals for team members
Take an active interest in training new staff and coordinate with other team leaders/editors to ensure continuous coaching for staff
Actively work on enhancing diversity and inclusion both within the team and the wider newsroom

Essential Skills & Experience Required:

At least 5 years of experience as a financial journalist
Strong writing & editing skills
Good relationship and stakeholder management skills
Strong analytical, coaching, and organizational skills

The team, and its leader, will work a mix of day and night shifts.
