Job Description


Opportunity PURPOSE : Single POC for all Dry-docking related issues for Maersk fleet across all fleet groups Be the central co-ordination point from fleet operations towards network and deployment as well as Liner Operations teams on long term planning of dockings. Ensure safe and high-quality docking of Maersk vessels and Fleet Operations gets maximum value from the allocated Dry dock budgets and costs saving potentials are harvested. Ensure Maersk vessels are docked at the most suitable and economical shipyard, at the most appropriate time and in the most cost-effective manner. Drive and implement standardization of the dry-docking process across fleet groups in line with industry wide best practices including alignment of dry dock specifications. Liaise with panel of dry dock specialists and assistance providers to ensure that qualified personnel are identified and deployed optimally for upcoming dockings. Maintain a detailed overview of Maersk owned fleet towards dry-docking compliance as well as regulatory changes. Provide information to management on docking performance including CAPEX spend as well as maintain adequate governance on expenses and closure of the dry-dock accounts. Manage a team of Docking Superintendents at various locations globally for supervision of dry dockings. Ensure that the docking assistants continuously provide service levels to the satisfaction of Maersk Fleet Operations and that the team meets requirements specified in service level agreements. Drive various transformation initiatives including digitization of the docking process and reports Be the lead point for deploying standard service frame agreements and material procurements in close co-ordination with central procurement teams and fleet groups. Constantly review dry dock process for continuous improvements. Key Responsibilities: PROCESS & PERFORMANCE Standardization & review of various aspects of drydocking such as SOPs, dry dock specs, services, materials and docking resources with end-2-end visibility. Review dry dock specifications, paint as well as specific defect lists for respective vessel class and co-ordinate with procurement for launching of tenders for shipyards/service companies. Owner & driver of Dry-docking as well as deployment workstreams for fleet operations ensuring all stakeholders are aligned on the planning and execution of dry dockings in the fleet. Own & review all dry-docking related policies, benchmarking reports and models based on market experiences, actual execution as well as predictive analysis towards improvements of dockings. Ability to monitor dry-dock timelines across fleet groups and follow up with Fleet Superintendents to ensure preparation for the same. Optimal planning of dockings in conjunction with Fleet Superintendent, Deployment and Procurement to guarantee dock availability. Own & drive selection process for fleet operations in collaboration with procurement team, as well as ensure compliance and governance in line with Maersk policies. Co-ordinate technical audits of shipyards and their development frameworks Assess shortlisted shipyards for strategic development with procurement basis current and future business projections. Coordinate with the nominated paint supplier, FMT paint specialists and Fleet Superintendent to finalize the paint requirements as per agreed paint strategy. Evaluate quality of dockings based on agreed and established measures. BUDGETS AND COSTS Ensure dry dock budget alignment across fleet group. Comprehensive understanding of cost drivers and key commercial challenges Own DD Capex budgets together with FBPs and fleet groups as well as drive annual budgeting process Ensure dry docking Budget models for all major docking locations and paint type basis historic data and cost benchmarks, are reviewed regularly and kept relevant. Ensure timely inputs for CAPEX ROFO by all team and the same are aligned with docking plans for coming quarter and the DD budget models. Ensure governance on dry docking related spending, compliance with accounting rules including additional costs and modifications. Drive business cases and TCO calculations for advancing dockings basis CAPEX write off as well as cost benefit/vessel condition improvement. Analyse previous docking costs and invoices to identify cost optimization opportunities. Provide inputs on the invoicing and negotiation of final invoice as well as completion of post docking evaluations. Participate in final invoice negotiation, if available and as applicable. Prepare detailed analysis on dry-dock costs as well as duration performance within a class of vessels and compare with global / Third party benchmarks. SAFETY, POLLUTION PREVENTION & INTERNATIONAL STATUTORY COMPLIANCE Ensure that safety is regarded as a common responsibility and is considered as first priority in the daily operation at sea, shipyards and in the office. Prepare and drive the HSE guidelines together with the HSE team and ensure these are adhered to during dockings. Ensure adequate definition and integration of processes for compliance of various environment regulations and upgrades during docking such as EAL, BWTS and more. Formulate policies on statutory compliance such as special survey alignments, and renewal of docking surveys/UWILDs. Provide overview to various teams on vessel compliance as well as future regulatory changes such as Panama and MO32 compliance. PERSONNEL Recruit and manage a team of Docking Superintendents from experienced seafarers or external specialists for supervising Maersk dockings. Formulate guidelines and ensure adherence to best practices by docking teams. Identify improvement areas, prepare development plans and performance discussions for the docking team. Prepare fleet-operations vide resource mapping as well as track deployment of docking superintendents including rosters, leave and administrative requirements together with manning offices and HR teams. Analyze engagement levels of the docking team and develop action plans for constant improvement. Monitor, evaluate and provide feedback on the performance of assigned docking service providers and docking assistants in conjunction with the Fleet Superintendent or Fleet Group Manager. COMMUNICATION Liaise closely with relevant stakeholders on all aspects of dry dock planning and management and keep Fleet Operations closely advised of any developments. Ensure, in corporation with the Fleet Group Manager, that experience and knowledge gained are communicated and shared across the Fleet Operations organisation in order to have best practices implemented and utilized to the benefit of Maersk Fleet Operations Provide inputs to Group Procurement based on analysis and feedbacks from previous dockings. GENERAL Take initiative for proper and timely action in all respects. Ensure that safety is first priority in all daily operations. Identify and share best docking practices across fleet groups and third-party ship management companies Make suggestions for improvements and cost savings in all matters within the area of responsibility. Ensure proper business/economic evaluations are made prior to taking decisions so that established budgets are not exceeded. Continuously update this job description in conjunction with Management. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Mechanical / Electrical Engineer / Naval arch with 10 years\' experience in Fleet Operations or shipyard Management qualification with project/operations/strategy will be an added advantage Project management qualification is required. PRINCE2 or PMP certification is an advantage Thorough knowledge on different aspects of dry docking in line with industry standards. Willing to lead a dynamic team of internal docking superintendents or external consultants Must have carried out dry dockings as project manager Thorough knowledge on the various class, flag and other regulatory/statutory requirements Adequate expertise on various MS Office packages especially Excel, Project and Visio as well as BI tools like Power BI and MicroStrategy Ability to manage a team at remote locations and deliver on expected objectives Knowledge of ISO systems especially ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001 Has good command over English language. Excellent interpersonal skills and encourages diversity/multicultural teams Assertive and has excellent negotiation skills Willing to travel Exposure to ERP and/or ship management systems will be an added advantage
