Job Title

Discipline Engineer - Surface protection, Environmental and climatic adaptation

Purpose of the Job/Objective

To ensure durability and sustained rolling stock performance over the design life when subjected to environmental and climatic ageing. Achieved by performing climatic and corrosive class analyses to specify relevant climate class requirements (as per EN 50125-1 & EN 50155) and surface protection requirements in-line with ALSTOM design rules and standard processes.

Responsibilities

• At tender phase: Analyse the customer requirements, conduct the climate study & corrosive class study, prepare the Corrosion management Plan and provide the compliance status. Highlight any risks and provide GAP analysis with the reference solution identifying deviations and/or cost-saving opportunities.
• At product development stage: Set the relevant targets depending on the applicable standards, customer requirements and durability requirements for internal development (make) and external (COS) parts/equipment. Propagate these technical requirements in the drawings/purchase specifications to ensure compliance from suppliers.
• At project execution stage: Manage requirements with internal and external stakeholders, Review and validate ECA deliverables (Surface protection test reports, Climatic test certificates, IP reports/certificates, etc.) compliant with QCD.
• Assure the right deployment (standards, certifications, tests etc.) for covering ECA requirements at design/manufacturing level.
• Co-ordinate and contribute to the CCN-DFCE activities (standardization, R&D etc.).
• Maintain strong relations with the CCN-DFCE network across ALSTOM and thus ensure application of Alstom standard processes within the Group.
• Support the deployment of processes, methodologies, special processes, ECA studies and available ECA data management (Return of Experience) and storage tools Raise an issue at N+1 in case of gaps / abnormality / non-compliance / deviations from standard process.

• Participate to relevant DR and GR meeting to ensure conformity to ECA specifications

Accountable for :

• Applying discipline rules and intimating the CCN leader, if missing or unclear instructions.
• Intimating TDE or TSE, if input data would not be appropriate, sufficient.

Responsible for :

• Insuring application of rules by design team.
• Collecting and deriving climatic environment requirements, and provide the related TRS.
• Preparing and animating Design review for environment adaptation.
• Checking Design conformity to TRS and EI during design reviews and all along the design (upon request).
• Ensuring corrosion performances using ALSTOM standards.
• Collecting REX and providing to CCN (for capitalisation and translation into rules).

Contributor for :

• Translating the REX into rules.
• Improving the Corrosion and the Environment & Climatic Adaptation internal referential.

Knowledge & Experience :

• Materials or General Engineering degree Bachelor/Master of Science or equivalent.
• At least 3 years of experience in R&D, Design in Aeronautical, Automotive or Railways engineering department.
• Knowledge of Climatic and corrosion International standards.
• Basic knowledge on mechanical design.
• Good knowledge to review 3D mock-up.

• Skill to read and interpret standards, and to lead design-reviews and propose solutions.
