Worldwide Veterinary Services (WVS) works tirelessly across the globe to ensure that no animal goes uncared for. Whether sending vital aid parcels to thousands of organisations working in the poorest areas, delivering expert veterinary training to raise the standard of veterinary care worldwide or mobilising our dedicated vets on the ground, WVS is committed to animal welfare across the globe. WVS leads animal welfare services in India through its two flagship centers in Ooty, Tamil Nadu and in Goa and continues to do pioneering work in rabies control through Mission Rabies. The WVS Hicks International Training Centre (ITC) and Mission Rabies in Goa have pioneered animal welfare services in the state of Goa for close to a decade. WVS Hicks continues to lead services for stray dogs and cats in Goa by offering animal birth control services, day clinic for treatment, rescue and adoption services. Mission Rabies in Goa has done groundbreaking work in vaccinating stray dogs and today Goa is the first state in India to become a \xe2\x80\x98Rabies Controlled State\xe2\x80\x99.
Job Purpose
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, WVS UK, the Director of Operations leads the business management side of the WVS Hicks ITC including human resources and financial management and reporting, facilities management, trapping and rescue coordination, partnership development and management, government stakeholder relationship management, marketing & communications and quality improvement initiatives. The Director of Operations is also responsible for developing and maintaining a positive workplace culture, community engagement and cordial client relationship management. The position supports the Director of Veterinary Services and in the management of veterinarians, maintaining the effectiveness of the training program, the number of animals sterilised, rescued and treated and reporting these monthly to the WVS (UK) head office.
Position Requirements
Education: The minimum level of education preferred is a Masters degree in Business Administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience: Minimum of 5 years of senior management experience in non-governmental and or non-profit organizations and minimum of 3 years experience in independently managing non-governmental or non-profit centers or programs including experience in financial, HR and service management. Other:

  • Strong demonstrated passion for the welfare of small and stray animals
  • Strong understanding of issues affecting the welfare of stray dogs and cats
  • Experience in or a strong understanding of the non-profit sector
  • Excellent team player with a collaborative style of working
  • Excellent people leadership skills and the ability to interact and engage with all levels of employees, volunteers and clients
  • Strong communication and presentation skills in English and a minimum of oral fluency in Hindi and or Konkani
  • Previous experience with an animal welfare services organization would be an asset
Job Responsibilities
  • Ensures that all key performance indicators and targets are met and strives to help the centre grow and develop into a hub of excellence within India and globally.
  • Ensures that the WVS Hicks ITC operates within the charity\xe2\x80\x99s mission statement.
  • Works collaboratively with other WVS center/project heads
  • Ensures smooth collaboration with the other WVS/Mission Rabies centers and projects in India .
  • Jointly with the Director of Veterinary Services, identifies and implements best practices in humane animal trapping, transportation, treatment and temporary kenneling.
  • Nurtures and maintains good relationships with all external stakeholders including government agencies, community partners, animal welfare leaders and activists.
  • Works with legal entities on any matters that occur and participates in all relevant government and regulatory body tables and councils where appropriate.
  • Managing and developing the human resources on site including hiring, onboarding and performance management of all administrative and support services staff
  • Supports the Director of Veterinary services in the hiring, onboarding and performance management of veterinarians.
  • Exercises utmost fiscal prudency in managing the budgets while ensuring that all financial activities meet statutory and ethical standards.
  • Ensures that all donations received at the centre are accurately accounted for and safely deposited as per WVS policy.
  • Ensures that the centre has adequate petty cash for day-to-day operations.
  • Jointly with the Director of Veterinary services reviews working practices to ascertain if it is successful and if not, devises alternatives.
  • Oversees and takes responsibility for health and safety for all staff and volunteers.
  • Creates and maintains a healthy workplace culture where employees feel motivated and empowered.
  • Monitors and supports staff/volunteer development and satisfaction.
  • Works with department heads and senior management to implement quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensures that all building, equipment and vehicles are maintained well.
  • Ensures that adequate quantities of all required materials, medicines and office stationaries are available and maintained.
  • Completes all routine monthly and annual reports and collects and prepares required data and reports as requested by the CEO.
  • Ensures that the WVS Hicks ITC has an active social media presence and supports the production of all media content required to promote the WVS Hicks ITC.
  • Supports in all fundraising activities for WVS India and WVS UK.
Hours of Work & Location The position works 9 am to 5.30 pm on weekdays and 9 am to 1 pm on Saturdays with some weekend and evening hours would be required. Requirement to work onsite at the Hicks Assagao location as well as occasional travel to other locations inside or outside Goa would be required.
