The Team:

The Data Governance team within the wider Commodity Insights \'Data Strategy & Governance\' function helps to lead fundamental organizational change by leading the data governance framework and stewardship of our policies, procedures, standards, and roles / responsibilities, while working to enable appropriate and maximum data utilization within our business. A close partnership with technology teams is envisioned, working together to embed computational governance into modern data architecture and tooling. The team is relatively small with an outsized impact.

Data Governance efforts occur within the broader context of major strategic initiatives to extend market leadership and build next-generation data, insights and analytics products that are powered by our world class datasets. In short, the Data Governance Director will play a pivotal role in our strategic transformation from a traditional data organization into a next generation interconnected data intelligence organization by improving the understanding, awareness, and appropriate usage of our data.

Responsibilities:
- In close collaboration across internal teams and stakeholders, lead the development, implementation, and ongoing execution of a data governance framework and data stewardship program that aligns with strategic objectives
- Develop and apply data governance policies, procedures, and standards to embed data governance at the point of ingestion and across the data pipeline, utilizing modern computational data governance strategies
- Develop and partner to implement a strategy for tracking and documenting the known rights associated with data and relevant restrictions, utilizing open-source standards
- Establish a culture of continuous improvement by embedding relevant metrics and data governance related targets in our existing measurement framework for our agile teams
- Lead staff in increasing the data literacy throughout the organization through the development of learning paths, allowing the information typically imparted by our data subject matter experts to be documented and accessed on-demand
- Consult on strategic projects at conception from a data governance perspective, handing off to staff as progression occurs
- Partner to develop the data governance roadmap and next-generation architecture
- Develop and execute a roll-out and evangelization strategy for the data catalog that includes partnering with the lines of business to utilize the platform in solving business challenges
- Lead and/or participate in the cross-divisional community of practice for Data Governance practitioners across the organization to align framework and strategy, as well as share best practices
- Establish key metrics and audit processes to ensure efficacy and a communication plan to keep stakeholders informed and engaged

What we\'re looking for:
- A seasoned data governance thought leader able to investigate the latest advancements and related concepts, frameworks, and best practices through self-learning and internal / external networking to curate and propose the most effective methods for Commodity Insights division
- Able to communicate complex technical strategies and concepts in a relatable way within formal and informal presentations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, as well as executives
- Ability to effectively persuade and large audiences outside the reporting line
- Extensive experience leading the design, implementation, and execution of data governance policies, procedures, standards, and stewardship model(s) is required
- Past experience within data management is preferred, such as Data Quality, Reference Data or Master Data Management
- Experience in overseeing data catalog rollout and internal marketing strategies is preferred
- At minimum a high-level understanding of ontology / taxonomy, linked data concepts, knowledge graph, and modern cloud computational governance strategies
- People leadership experience is ideal, but also open to developing the right candidate in this area
