Role Purpose

• Digital & Data Science Head will lead a team of 5-6 direct reports managing various projects through in function and cross-functional agile methods in CPD (Crop Protection Development)

Accountabilities

• Leading data scientists based on the description of what the data scientists do

• Data analysis and E2E data workflow, including data quality management and BITS
• Enable the transformation of field biological data into knowledge with an emphasis on trial design, analysis, data quality, dataset handling, and providing support to the CPD, deliver more value for Syngenta and its customers
• Develop and implement procedures for effective data management.
• Work closely with Field trialing team (Field Biologists) and support them in handling of various BITS tools to capture data from field to system.
• Partner with APAC and Global Technical Excellence and Quantitative Biology team for development, testing, and implementation of new methodologies and applications in data projects
• Use BITS and other tools and systems to provide information to CPD team in the form of data searches, queries, summaries, visualizations, analyses, and reports.
• Conduct and support in appropriate statistical analyses of product performance data for towards CPD and business needs.
• Owning relationships with business partners of assigned business function to deliver analytical solutions and push for a data-driven organization by synthesizing analyses and developing clear and concise communications and presentations to business partners

• Leading SPH (Soil Plant Health) specialist based on the description of what this role will do

• Support CPD to build the capability of SPH trial management.
• Contribute to implementation of global strategies and biological development plans in support of the company sustainability commitments to deliver competitive, sustainable solutions in support of active ingredient development. This includes providing in -depth level scientific expertise in soil health, microbiome/plant interactions and biology within the business streams, working closely with regions and global functions
• Lead projects focusing on a holistic, systems-based approach to biodiversity preservation, farm resilience and agricultural sustainability, providing technical leadership with a special focus on soil health and biology across functions
• Provide technical insights on forward thinking trends and new technologies to strengthen Syngenta\xe2\x80\x99s competitive position in drone/application technology, soil health, regenerative agriculture and sustainability. This includes scouting and evaluation of tools and technologies for sustainability and soil health assessments and leading their implementation in country
• Continually drive for technical excellence in sustainable agriculture initiatives, seeking improvements and providing technical expertise and thought leadership to key stakeholders
• Build and support capability building in soil biodiversity and soil science; regenerative agriculture principles and sustainable agriculture and maintain good networks with Technical Experts.
• Foster technical networking, by actively seeking contact with technical experts, customers, and key influencers to develop and support solutions in sustainable and regenerative agriculture.
• Translate project data into compelling messages that appeal to customers, key stakeholders, and influencers, actively looking for new approaches to enhance or reposition a product or sustainability concept\xe2\x80\x99s value proposition
• Serve as primary contact for sustainability assessments/studies in new AI development and participate in cross functional teams where relevant/required
• Leading and operating new technology (Drones & Application technology)

• Support targeted development and evaluation of new tools and methodology in close collaboration with stakeholders e.g., Drone, Precision Application, etc.
• Build and support capability building in drone, application technology and maintain good networks with Technical Experts.
• Keep up to date on external innovations from companies/universities in India to enable Syngenta to remain on the forefront of implementing new technologies like drone, application technology, and be able to evaluate these technological opportunities quickly and accurately
• Engage in and contribute to the APAC and Global R&D Scientific Networks.
• Participation in department budget development. Ensuring that team works in available budget.

Critical knowledge

• Post Graduate/Doctorate in Agricultural Science or relevant life science or engineering.
• In depth understanding of technical aspects of crops, agronomy and pests and agro-chemicals
• Extensive knowledge of Agricultural Statistics, Design of experiments and data science

Critical experience

• At least 7-10 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience of working in agrochemical industry or any other relevant experience.
• Good understanding of agriculture, application technology and its elements in India
• Understand customer needs, business potential in India
• Expertise in soil, plant health and environmental impact in the context of sustainable agriculture
