Job Description


Overview The Oracle Database Administrator designs, prescribes, analyzes, deploys, integrates, tunes, optimizes, configures, evaluates, tests, debugs, and administers scripts, programs, tools, objects, tables, queries, forms, and other assets relating to the use of one or more Oracle databases. Responsibilities The Oracle Database Administrator uses their command of emerging technologies, industry best practices, and system requirements to recommend and document specific elements of database architecture including servers and their components, networking and related appliances, and third party software and programs. The Oracle Database Administrator seeks out and recognizes opportunities for process improvement, re-engineering, and automation, and employs practices intended to improve customer satisfaction and reduce costs. The Oracle Database Administrator is expected to consistently leverage their significant expertise and skillset by routinely providing guidance and mentorship to peers during informal knowledge transfer opportunities and formalized training, and acts as a point of escalation for needs within and outside of conventional business hours. This duty may be scheduled in advance or in an on-call capacity according to the needs of the organization. Qualifications Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the administration, backup, recovery, and migration of Oracle databases Experience with Oracle Golden Gate and ODS Significant experience with the design, analysis, deployment, integration, optimization, performance tuning, troubleshooting, administration, and/or consultation of the following disciplines or technologies is required: Oracle Real Application Clusters, Recovery Manager, Data Guard, Golden Gate, Application Express, and other solutions shell, batch, and Perl scripting virtualization software including VMware and/or Hyper-V cloud computing programs including Amazon EC2 and/or Microsoft Azure complex client/server and web-hosted application software Experience with the interaction of Oracle solutions with the following disciplines or technologies is preferred: storage technologies such as Storage Array Networks (SAN), Network Attached Storage (NAS), Direct Attached Storage (DAS) and RAID strategies governing data storage LDAP solutions such as Active Directory, Novell eDirectory, and Apple Open Directory enterprise backup systems and best practices Bachelor\'s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other technical discipline, or experience commensurate with a four-year degree One or more certifications indicating formal training and expertise with the design, analysis, deployment, integration, optimization, troubleshooting, and consultation of Oracle databases and related solutions is desired Skills/knowledge/abilities Ability to act as a subject matter expert before, during, and after service fulfilment Ability to lead or direct projects by accurately scoping responsibilities, estimating level of effort, assessing outcomes, and mitigating risk Ability to work independently to understand, communicate, and resolve business problems in situations where little or no supervision, standardization, or information exists Ability to work within a fast-paced, dynamic, and demanding environment Ability to work concurrently on projects of varying size/scope, complexity, and duration Significant ability to manage difficult customers with complex or challenging demands Proficient in the use of software such as Microsoft Office, CRM, and remote conferencing Ability to foster and maintain an effective relationship with colleagues, customers, and vendors Ability to dependably complete reporting in a very timely and accurate manner Ability to anticipate, recognize, mitigate, and resolve potential problems with rigorous decisions and solutions consistent with organizational goals Ability to convey information and ideas clearly, concisely, and persuasively using terminology and jargon appropriate for the intended audience Ability to apply expertise to address the needs and challenges of the education industry, public and private sector education providers, and PowerSchool customers Ability to scrutinize existing business processes in order to improve efficiency, quality, and efficacy of services Ability to anticipate impact of decisions before executing them by perceiving and evaluating alternatives and looking beyond the obvious Ability to inspire and instill confidence in peers and colleagues by taking actions that generate respect and demonstrates the ability to handle routine and non-routine matters with certainty Ability to conduct oneself with a professional appearance and demeanor Ability to travel at least 35% for extended periods and to distant locations Ability to fulfill duties during unconventional hours and days including evenings and weekends Ability to lift up to sixty (60) pounds EEO Commitment PowerSchool is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
